I was very lucky, although I didn't realise it at
the time.? My Mum had saved up about ?350 so I could buy a car when I was
18.? When I announced I was going to buy a GP100 she didn't object at
all.? It wasn't until years later that my Dad told me she had never liked
his bikes so I can't imagine she was pleased with my decision.? Mind you,
it's only in the last couple of months that my Dad has admitted that he had a
Lambretta before he owned the AJS and Panther that I
remember.......

When I was coming up for my 16th birthday and
wanted to ask my dad if I could have a bike (Those were the days when you
asked permission from your parents) I leant against the mantle piece on which
stood the trophies that he had won for trials riding on his Red Hunter.. It
made it harder for him if he wanted to say no. fortunately he said "Of course
you can". the only proviso was that I didn't buy a scooter

Greenlaning/trail riding is not the same
as trials & trials is not the same as motocross.? Have a look for
the TRF website for an idea of trails/greenlaning.? Trials is more
about getting around sections and you lose points for having to put your
foot down.? My Dad used to marshall at trials events and we used to get
"dragged" around with him; although I enjoyed it I'm not so sure about my
mum and brother. I want to try trials and trails - they both appeal.? I
told my Dad I wanted to try trials, thinking he'd be pleased but he was
quite worried.? He reckons its a family trait that Clarkes don't bounce
when they fall off, they just go splat!? I'll just have to try not to
fall off much, then :-)

We're off to the BSA international rally in
Belgium next Friday.? Unfortunately, I haven't got my BSA sorted and
Jon's developed an alarming rattle from the engine the other day so neither
of us will be on BSAs -?just have to?hope we won't get kicked off
the site!

I'm average height (5'5" ish) but shortish legs
- just long enough to reach the ground though.? The F650 isn't really
low like a cruiser.? I think I've seen a few favourable reviews of it
by women riders.
