W4ELP Lookup Progeram Update

Hi All,
W4ELP Lookups v9.18 is posted in the Program Files section and ready for download.
No big changes in this one - mostly cleaning up some minor items.
Added code to gracefully exi the app by closing the Setup window.
Fixed failure to create folder for S.I.G. member data when needed.
Changed S.I.G. comments to not overwrite existing comments.
Added code to automatically hide tabs in Logbook ALE if not the active window. Keeps it a smaller footprint on monitor. NOTE - I LIKE THIS, BUT IF IT IS A PROBLEM FOR YOU, PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND I'LL MAKE IT AN OPTION OR REMOVE IT.?

Ed - W4ELP

Thank You!!

Ed,

I just tried to load your new version of lookup and my Win 11 computer and it is not giving me an option to run anyway. I think Microsoft Defender is blocking my attempts and I have tried to tune it off with no luck. ?Any suggestions?

Hi Buz,
The first time I tried it on my Win 11 computer I got the same thing but was able to override it. May have to turn off Windows Defender the first time you run it.?

Ed,

Yes the first time I loaded the older version on the new Windows 11 computer it gave me the option to run anyway. ?Now, it doesn’t do that and unfortunately there is no one switch to turn off Windows Defender. ?You have multiple switches and so far I haven’t found the right one that will let me load your program. ?
We are having a PSK contest (160m, 80m, and 40m) this weekend and my main antenna is not working, which is my only 80m antenna. ?I will be pulling it down between rain showers to see what’s the problem. ?I spent about 3 hours up on the roof Friday repairing my Carolina 40m Windom. ?Fortunately I don’t have to get on the roof to repair the Carolina 80m Windom. ?
If I have time, I will try again to load the program, I just ran out of time before the contest started and your old version is working well. ?So it’s not a big deal. ?I just thought you might have a quick solution.

I think you already know this, but when Defender blocks a program or an
installer from running, there is a link on the pop-up message that most people
don't even notice that lets you make an informed decision to run the file
anyway. If you click on that link it should give you the option to override
Defender's block.

If you're not seeing this, it's very strange. I've always been able to override
Defender. Is it actually Defender that's blocking the program, or is it possibly
an AV program doing so? Most AV programs will let you right-click on its icon in
the task tray and choose to close the AV program, or allow it to stop working
for a set time period, like a few minutes, or just suspend the AV program until
you go back and re-enable it.

I'm reading from oldest email to newest, so I missed this, but I have a
suggestion.

When you install some AV programs, they will turn off Defender so that you don't
have two anti-malware programs running at the same time. It's still there, just
not working. So another AV program might give you the ability to turn it off and
though you may get a pop-up telling you that you're not protected, you should be
able to ignore that and continue, then re-enable the AV program.

Is this happening after installation, or with the installer itself?

Donald,

Thank you for trying to help. ?I really appreciate it. ?Here are some screenshots that might help.
image0.jpegimage1.jpegimage2.jpeg
There is no option to run anyway as in Windows 10. ?When I got this computer and started loading programs, I did load W4ELP’s older version and I believe I used the run anyway option. ?
There is not an easy way that I’ve found to shutdown Defender. ?So I’m stuck.

Buz,

See if this helps:

There are different instructions for Windows 11 and 10. Click on Windows 11 near
the top under the Caution box and see if those directions help. You have to
whitelist the program.

Donald,

I finally?did get the new version to load by finding the correct buttons to turn off in Defender.? Wow, hope I can remember how I did this the next time.
