Winter Weather Advisory issued for Clearfield County
4
Everyone, The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for CLearfield County Thursday and Friday. They're predicting 2 to 3 inches for most of Clearfield County, more in the Western portion/DuBois region. Please stay alert and monitor the 147.255 W3CPA repeater for stations requesting weather updates. Carmine W3CWP and others do occasionally operate from the NWS office in State College and request snowfall observations on the repeater. They consider it helpful to have actual reports from the region during these warnings and advisories. Please consider helping them out. Thank you. 147.255 back on air / DMR repeater re-located
Everyone. Some excellent news to relay: 1. The issue with the 147.255 repeater has been resolved and it's back on the air. Allen K3HOC believes that the power switch for the repeater was accidentally bumped when workers were at the site earlier. That issue has been rectified. 2. The 444.625 DMR repeater has been relocated from the EMA building to the Rockton tower site. I was able to carry on a two-way conversation with Tim K5TEL using an HT in the Bigler PA area and could hear Paul W3PRL here at West Decatur. So that repeater appears to be functioning as planned. Coverage should extend east to about Brookville before becoming a hilltop repeater, South toward Punxy and East to Philipsburg. Allen does not have the equipment mounted in cabinets but will take care of that task on his next trip to the tower site. If you have DMR capabilities, please give the 444.625 W3CPA repeater a try! Thank you and 73. 147.255 off air
Just a quick heads up for everybody. 147.255. Repeater is currently off the air. The GRS repeater however, continues to function properly. So it¡¯s not a power issue as both repeaters are controlled by the same controller. I spoke to Allen and he¡¯s going to try and get up there later today to look at it to see what¡¯s going on. Just wanted everybody to know what was going on. 814-553-5649 -- ___________ CCARC Group Email Addresses * Post: [email protected] * Subscribe: W3CPA+subscribe@ groups.io ( [email protected] ) * Unsubscribe: W3CPA+ [email protected] ( [email protected] ) * Group Owner: [email protected]

Everyone, Some sad news this morning. Rich N3RBJ suffered a personal loss yesterday morning when his father was discovered to have unexpectedly passed away during the previous night. Dummy Load Project Build
2
The January 2025 issue of QST magazine has an article about the home-brew construction of a fan cooled dry dummy load, complete with a parts list. The total cost is said to be less than $40. A copy of the article is attached to this email. And the complete parts list from the ARRL web site is below. I think I'd like to build one of these for myself. Is anyone else interested in building one as well? Maybe we could make a group activity out of this little project. Anxious to hear if anyone is interested. New GMRS Repeater
2
There is a new GMRS repeater in Brookville near the I-80 bridges. It was initially planned to be on the same frequency & tone as the Rockton repeater and I was able to reach out to the owner before it went on the air so it is now at 462.725 with a 141.3 tone. It has a large area of overlap with the Rockton 650 repeater but coverage does extend further west. This will be a good addition to GMRS coverage further west for travellers on 80. https://mygmrs.com/repeater/9727? Scott W3EOD

EMA Radio Room Update
Everyone- As most everyone is aware, the Kenwood UHF/VHF transceiver the county owns loses its memories every time it is powered off. We have in the past attempted to fix it by replacing the EPRM battery but this did not solve the problem. At the request of the county, I have requested a price quote from DX Engineering for a replacement transceiver. They provided a price for an AnyTone AT-D578UV III Plus package which includes the needed programming software. I also stressed to the county that we really could use two of these transceivers. With two we would be able to monitor the National Weather Service station, or any other station of interest, on one radio and use the second one to communicate on the local 147.255 repeater. Hopefully they at least get one, but it would be ideal if they bought two. And as an added benefit, this particular model of radio would add DMR capabilities to the EMA anateur radio room. At this point I'm waiting for a response from the county. Just wanted to bring everyone up to speed on this. Thank you and 73.
