Tuesday night net
2
Good morning everyone, if someone would like to step up and be a net control for the Tuesday night net that would really be appreciated. Unfortunately, I will be starting a Bible study at our church on Tuesday nights and will not be able to call the net at this time. The Bible study is during that time. I will be glad to help out if there¡¯s any weeks that we are not there and I am available. Anyone can be a net control. It is not hard at all, so if you would like to do the net on Tuesday night just let us know and we¡¯ll be glad to get you on board. It is a great net. And only last about 15 to 20 minutes. Of course, we would like to get a lot more people participating and if it lasts an hour, that would be great too. Anyway, hope everyone has a great week and please consider being a neck control for the net. It is a great opportunity and good experience. 73 from Tim. K5TEL

"Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act of 2025"
FYI¡. 814-553-5649 Begin forwarded message: From: Carmine Prestia <carmine.prestia@...> Date: February 23, 2025 at 8:41:36 PM EST To: "[email protected] Group Moderators" <[email protected]> Subject: "Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act of 2025" ? Centre County Amateur Radio Operators: Recently at the Nittany Club and Philipsburg Club meetings I spoke about the Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act of 2025 that has been, or will be, reintroduced in the United States Congress. This act, if it becomes law, will prohibit homeowners' associations from unreasonably limiting the ability of licensed amateur radio operators from putting up antennas for their stations. As we all know these restrictions have often limited amateur radio operators from establishing or operating stations if they live in a HOA controlled area. This looks like a good bill and we should support it by contacting our congressional representatives. To that end I have placed a post on my website that explains this more and linked to two documents provided by Elden Wood, KF0JZM, that provide very good guidance for making these contacts. You can find the information here: https://www.aresracescentrecountypa.com/?p=1364 You may not live in an HOA now but you might in the future so supporting this effort is good for all of us, including those hams now restricted by HOAs. Updated Club Roster
13
Everyone, Attached to this email is an updated Clearfield County Amateur Radio Club membership roster. Hopefully I have everyone's information correct at this point but if there are any errors or omissions please let me know. Also, on the far right is a new column titled "ARRL Member". CCARC is an ARRL affiliated club. To initially qualify for this status we were required to have at least 51% of our members also being ARRL members. Recently CCARC applied to the ARRL to have the club designated as a "ARRL Special Services Club" and the topic of ARRL membership came up again. We have not been tracking ARRL memberships and don't have accurate information. If you are an ARRL member, and it's not already indicated on the roster, please let me know so we can update the information. Thank you. John N3SPW -- John Szwarc Cell Phone: (814) 553-5649

D-STAR repeater antenna
6
Everyone, Our planned DSTAR repeater is progressing. The tower we had asked for permission to use is going to have some maintaince done in the near future. They will be climbing the tower and this is our opportunity to install an antenna for the DSTAR repeater without incurring additional cost. So the need for an antenna becomes immediate if we¡¯re to take advantage of this. I called Scott N3XCC who builds repeaters. He built the DMR one for us. He has a suitable antenna he would sell for $600. It¡¯s new old stock. He bought it for a project that fell through. So never installed. The retail on this antenna is over $1,000. So this is a real deal for us. He¡¯s willing to take payments but I don¡¯t want to commit the club to this expense without consulting others. What are your thoughts on this? We also need duplexers and I had previously discussed with Scott and he has a set for us. He said we could borrow them for a while and purchase later if we¡¯d like. So what does everyone think? EMA Center HF Antenna Update
4
Everyone, This morning Allen K3HOC and myself spent some time at the Clearfield County EMA building trying to sort out the mess of coax antenna wires to come into the amateur radio station area. The long answer: There are six coax leads coming into our amateur operations area. We determined there were cables for the 6m band antenna, three Comet GP-9 UHF/VHF antennas, and one UHF beam antenna. The sixth cable has nothing attached to it. We presume this was intended for the HF antenna. Allen spent some time investigating cables coming down the tower that potentially could be for our HF dipole antenna. None appeared to be from the HF antenna. So either the cable has become completely disconnected at the feed point on the tower, the coax cable may have failed, or the antenna itself is just toasted. We won't know the answer to that until someone climbs the tower to investigate and test things. The short answer: We could not locate a cable that appeared to be the HF antenna. Allen is going to consult with the county officials and come up with a plan to move forward. It appears this is going to take a while. But we will eventually get it fixed. Thank you and 73. Wintery Weekend Weather
According to the National Weather Service's latest update, we should all be seeing snow outside right now. Here in Clearfield County this should be adding up to between 1 to 2 inches depending on your elevation. And then the sleet will start followed by some rain and finally some really cold temperatures with wind early next week. Check out the attached forcast file from the NWS. Sounds like a great time! Stay safe and keep an ear tuned into the 147.255 repeater for anyone with weather updates or requesting information. Thank you \ John N3SPW -- John Szwarc Cell Phone: (814) 553-5649

Radio Night
CCARC Members.... Our first "radio night" was held last night and I'd have to say that everyone who attended enjoyed themselves. It wasn't standing room only, but with 8 of us in the radio room it was packed! We fired up the Icom IC-7300 and under the guidance of Lars KB3WBT installed some software on Ed KC3ZAL's laptop and watched the FT8 radio signals coming in. Yes, some stations even from far away lands like Africa! Unfortunately the antenna seemed to have a SWR issue so we couldn't make contact. but I think everyone there learned something about FT8 and is now interested in learning more about FT8. A huge thank you to Lars who made the radio night what it was! If you missed the first one... well you missed something special. The next radio night will be in March .... 2nd Thursday of the month at 7 PM. Hope to see everyone there. 73. Good News!
3
CCARC Members, Some exciting news for everyone today. Earlier today Tim N3PUL, our President, received permission from the Clearfield County EMA Director to order not one, but two AnyTone AT-D578UV III amateur radio transceivers for the EMA radio room! Not only will this fix the issue of the aging Kenwood UHF/VHF radio that doesn't hold its programming anymore, but it will add DMR capability to the EMA radio room. So hopefully sometime soon these new radios will be available for use at the Clearfield EMA radio room. 73. ARLB002 Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act Re-Introduced (CORRECTED)
6
CCARC members Have you ever wondered what the American Radio League (ARRL) does for you? Maybe you think it's only a magazine which is, for the most part, distributed digitally these days. Maybe you've allowed your membership to lapse??? If you read below you'll see exactly the type of efforts the ARRL gets involved with. And you'll understand why it's so vital that this organization goes to battle on our behalf to protect our rights. To my knowledge, the only Home Owner Associations within Clearfield County are Treasure Lake HOA and Glendale Year Round POA. But that doesn't mean some developer isn't planning something new right now! Stand behind the ARRL in efforts like this and show your support with your ARRL membership. https://www.arrl.org/home 73. John N3SPW ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: ARRL <memberlist@...> Date: Fri, Feb 7, 2025 at 7:22 PM Subject: ARLB002 Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act Re-Introduced (CORRECTED) To: <johnszwarc@...> SB QST @ ARL $ARLB002 ARLB002 Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act Re-Introduced ZCZC AG02 QST de W1AW ARRL Bulletin 2 ARLB002 From ARRL Headquarters Newington CT February 7, 2025 To all radio amateurs SB QST ARL ARLB002 ARLB002 Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act Re-Introduced Legislation Will Increase Communication Options During Natural Disasters WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Representatives August Pfluger, R-Tex., and Joe Courtney, D-Conn. announced their joint re-introduction of legislation in the Senate and House to restore the right to amateur radio operators to install the antennas necessary to serve their communities. Homeowner association rules often prevent Amateur Radio operators from installing antennas at their homes even though amateur radio has proven to be essential in emergencies and natural disasters such as hurricanes when other means of communication fail. "Mississippians should have access to every possible means of warning for natural disasters, including amateur radio operators. In an emergency, those warnings can mean the difference between life and death," Senator Wicker said. "The Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act would remove unnecessary roadblocks that could help keep communities safe during emergencies like tornadoes, hurricanes, and fires." "When disaster strikes, amateur radio operators provide vital, often life-saving information, which shouldn't be hindered by prohibitive rules or confusing approval processes. The Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act eliminates obstacles for ham radio enthusiasts, allowing them to continue their communications and serve their communities in the face of emergencies," said Senator Blumenthal. "Natural disasters and other emergency situations that hinder our regular lines of communication are unfortunately unavoidable, which is why we must bolster our emergency preparedness by removing the barriers amateur radio operators often run into when installing antennas. Amateur radio plays a vital role in public safety by delivering critical information to people at all times. My district is home to dozens of amateur radio operators ready to volunteer in the event of an emergency, and I am proud to lead this legislation," said Congressman August Pfluger. "As we know from recent natural disasters, amateur radio operators in Connecticut can be a critical component of disaster response and emergency management. It is in our communities' best interest that we give them the capabilities to operate at the highest level, and with the re-introduction of this bill, we've taken a strong step in that direction," said Congressman Courtney. Background: The Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act of 2025 (H.R. 1094 and S. 459) would require homeowner associations to accommodate the needs of FCC-licensed Amateur Radio operators by prohibiting the enforcement of private land use restrictions that ban, prevent, or require the approval of the installation or use of amateur radio station antennas. Homeowner associations have often prevented inst

Radio Night - Thursday February 13th
Everyone- At the January CCARC meeting it was decided that we would hold monthly Radio Night events at the Clearfield County EMA amateur radio station in the EMA building. As discussed, they are to be held on the 2nd Thursday of each month which would put the first one on Thursday February 13th starting at 7 PM. This is an opportunity for all of us to become more familiar with the equipment at the EMA center as well as giving it a routine dusting off so we know it's ready for use if/when requested by the county. If you have a Technician Class license, or no license at all, you too can try out the amateur radio bands under the supervision of a licensed radio amateur. The supervising amateur will need to be General Class or higher if you want to try the HF bands. And besides, it's always fun to twist knobs on some nice radio gear! So please plan to join us... Thursday February 13th and the 2nd Thursday of each month going forward. 7PM at the Clearfield County EMA in the Amateur Radio Room. Thank you and 73.
