Central Pennsylvania Weather Briefing

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

It looks like the area of produced ice accumulation stayed to the south of us in Cambria County. ? We¡¯re expecting about an inch of snow for Clearfield County today with higher elevations receiving a bit more. ?Attached to this email should be a water briefing update from the National Weather Service. ? ?Interesting reading.?

Please keep an ear toward the 147.255 repeater for fellow amateur radio operators who may be looking for information or experiencing something different than what the predictions are. ??

Re: Astron Power Supplies.....tour.

Wow!? That's pretty cool.? I would have thought the production process would have been a little more automated than that.? But it''s really cool to see how they are made.? One of the first pieces?of gear I bought when I was newly licensed was an Astron RS-20A power supply.? It's still running today.? It just sits there and does its thing.? Never had an issue with it.??

Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service has updated their prediction for the storm. in addition to the previously issued warning, they¡¯re now predicting up to a quarter inch of ice for Cambria and Somerset counties. Just south of Clearfield county. It wouldn¡¯t be striding to see the area of ice shift a little north and include Clearfield County. Looks like this will be a Sunday morning event. Stay vigilant and remember that local water condition reports are appreciated by the NWS.

Re: Hamfest Sponors

Ummm.? As Scott W3EOD pointed out to me earlier?today, the CCARC meeting is Thursday the 19th, not tomorrow?evening.? Sorry if I alarmed anyone by mentioning the meeting on Thursday.? But as an added bonus, Scott? W3EOD will be doing a presentation on DMR at the meeting on the 19th.? So we have something to look forward to!

Re: Group IO and Hamfest

Thanks Paul.? For those of you who don't know Paul..... he was a resident of Grapian and became licensed while living there.? He has since moved back to his hometown?of New Kensington and built a ham shack which he calls "Shack America".? Occasionally?you'll hear him on the W3CPA repeater checking in or just looking for someone to talk to.??

The hamfest plans are progressing.? Previously?it was announced that we had secured the Clearfield County Fairgrounds?Grange and Agriculture?Building for the event on Sunday September 14th 2025.? Here's where we are as of right now:
  • The ARRL form has been submitted to get our event listed on the ARRL web site.? We may need to update information as plans are firmed up, but at least people will start seeing information about the hamfest and date. The WPA Section Manager has not yet approved the event as an ARRL Sanctioned event.? Hopefully soon.??
  • A VE Testing session is set for 11AM - time confirmed with Mary and her team from Ridgeway.? They are going to add the test session to the listing they use to promote their?sessions.
  • The National Weather Service SKYWARN program will be at 9AM.? This time and date is?confirmed with the NWS staff who will do the presentation.?
  • The ARRL Section Manager is interested in holding a ARRL Q&A session but cannot commit until ARRL approves the event as a sanctioned ARRL event.?
  • I've started the process of reaching out to amateur radio suppliers looking for potential door prizes and support.? So far I have one company that has committed?to providing a door prize:
    • N3FJP Software will provide a gift certificate for their complete collection of software - software is a download so the gift certificate is the activation key.
  • The following companies are discussing the possibility?of becoming a sponsor.? None have yet committed, but they're?asking for things like shipping addresses of where to send the door prizes to.? That's a good sign!? The three interested companies are:
    • DX Engineering
    • Radioddity
    • Bioenno Power
  • The CCARC web site now has a page about the hamfest.? It includes a "Join our email list" feature.? Still a work in progress, but it's started.
  • I spoke?with Doc Sam W3CO who is the organizing effort behind the Westmoreland County ARES/ACS program.? They have a mobile communications truck Westmoreland County provides for them.? He's requesting permission to bring it to the hamfest as a display.?
  • And finally... I have a draft of a flyer which we can use to hand out and promote the hamfest once it's finalized.? Still working on this.??
Hoping to get the Hamfest Committee together later today on a conference call to update everyone and identify items that need immediate attention.? This is a big project for us and anyone who would like to help would be appreciated.??

Thanks and 73.
