Mt Osceola: my first 10-pointer
3
I activated Mount Osceola W1/HA-011 on Friday. Jeff AC1JR provided a lot of helpful information and encouragement. It was technically easier but more exhausting than Monadnock. My contacts were mostly 15m, but I tried 40m again. I appreciate local chasers, including Mike WB2FUV. My 40m antenna is a compromise because I use a vertical for 20m and up, with the addition of one radial for 40m. The tuner can match easily, but I expect the radiation efficiency to be low. If hooked on 40, I may bring a horizontal extender to make a full-size inverted L. I left out my folding chair and 2m HT to save my weight. I even got a haircut, which saved a few grams. However, the extra water, lunch, and snacks for the longer hike added more weight than I could save. Tecumseh is probably my next 10-pointer. Are there other summits no harder than Osceola or Monadnock for a day hike within 2.5 hours of Boston? Moosilauke via Gorge Brook may be a bit more challenging. Anything else I should look at? Incidentally, I activated Notch Mountain W1/CR-007 last week. The previous activators seemed to bushwhack their way up. I found just a bit of information online: there was a trailhead on Birnam Rd in Northfield across from the gold field and a trail that goes to the Notch summit (red blaze). The big DCR parking lot was empty, and everything was easy. The hard part was the road closure on Gulf Rd and North Street. Google Maps was not smart. I had to go Rt 63 down to Crag Mountain W1/CR-008 (the shorter approach from the south). Ryuji Suzuki AB1WX FN42li

Blueberry Mountain W1/AM-250
9
It was great to work KC1MXB and K2CPT today. I apologize for leaving you hanging there, I did not expect a pileup on 40. I’ve been camping at Mt Blue (which I recommend) and hitting a few of the local peaks. So far Center, Mt Blue, Quill Hill, and Blueberry Mt. I hiked up Sugarloaf but had to turn around at the peak due to bad weather. I'm going to try sugarloaf again, saddleback, and one other before the week is over. If anyone is interested, I have all the W1/AM peaks in CalTopo, and I’d be happy to share the map. It’s been great for planning. 73 Greg/KC1RID

1st Annual Queens of the Mountains?YL SOTA Special Event Weekend!!
It is with great excitement that Amy, AG7GP, and I announce the 1st Annual Queens of the Mountains YL SOTA Special Event Weekend!! On June 1-2, a team of USAYLs will be activating summits across the states using 1x1 Special Event Station (SES) calls for each USA region (using the format W#Q). We encourage all of you around the world, OM and YL, to chase the Queens, and all SOTA YLs to activate. We hope this event will highlight the fabulous opportunity SOTA offers for women in radio and motivate more YLs to get involved with SOTA. Please spread the word, mark your calendar, and show your support by joining us for this first-ever event. If you are a YL wanting to participate but are not sure how, please reach out to either of us and we will get you rolling. You do not need your own 1x1 special event call to participate, but if you’re interested in using the special 1x1 call that we obtained for the call area where you’ll be activating during this event, just let us know and we will send you a link to the sign-up sheet. We alsoencourage the use of #YLSOTA and #QOM in your alerts, spots, and social media to highlight YL activity and this event, especially if you're a YL using your personal call. 73 es 33, Amy-AG7GP- ag7gp.amy@...
