Mini CTU is a series of contest-oriented talks and presentations offered at HamXposition all day Friday. HamXposition is pleased to offer a Parks On The Air (POTA) track featuring presentations designed for both newcomer and experienced POTA operators alike. There will be a functioning portable station operating on the hotel grounds designed to show beginners how to "chase" POTA contacts. In addition, an actual POTA activation will occur in a nearby state park following the prize drawing and closing ceremony. This year, volunteers will staff a special "Get On The Air" station, W1XPO, to mentor and assist newcomers in making their first HF contact. Our popular EmComm track will be back for 2024. Veteran emergency communicators will share their knowledge and experience to help others to "up their game." In addition to talks and presentations, convention goe

Inaugural Queen of the Mountains event 3
Inaugural Queens of the Mountains From: Mary Sheldon Announcing the Inaugural Queens of the Mountains YL SOTA Special Event Weekend!! June 1-2 a team of USA YLs will be activating summits across the states using 1x1 Special Event Station (SES) calls for each USA region (using the format W#Q). We encourage all of you around the world, OM and YL, to chase the Queens, and all SOTA YLs to activate. We hope this event will highlight the fabulous opportunity SOTA offers for women in radio and motivate more YLs to get involved with SOTA. Please spread the word, mark your calendar, and show your support by joining us for this first-ever event. If you are a YL wanting to participate but are not sure how, please reach out to either of us and we will get you rolling. You do not need your own 1x1 special event call to participate, but if you¡¯re interested in using the special 1x1 call that we obtained for the call area where you¡¯ll be activating during this event, just let us know and we will send you a link to the sign-up sheet. We also encourage the use of #YLSOTA and #QOM in your alerts, spots, and social media to highlight YL activity and this event, especially if you're a YL using your personal call. 73 es 33, Amy-AG7GP- ag7gp.amy@... FYI for those using Hamshack Hotline
Hi everyone, I received an email today concerning the Hamshack Hotline VOIP System and Network. New 7-Digits Extensions Are Here! Hello, Matt NA1Q We are writing to you to let you know that Hamshack Hotline is migrating away from 10-digit extension numbers and replacing them with 7-digit extension numbers. This means that all existing 10-digit extensions are being converted to 7-digits. For example, if your current extension number is '5500000122', your new extension number will be '5500122'. Your new 7-digit extension number has already been created on the HHUX server and is ready for use! Here is what you will need to do: For users that have an IAX2 trunk extension: You will need to modify your setup, and remove three of the zeros from the middle of your 10-digit USERNAME so it becomes a 7-digit number. Click here for Trunk setup instructions: For users with a hard phone: In order to use your new extension, you will need to manually re-provision your phone by going into your phones UI, then locate your extension number field, and remove three of the zeros from the middle of your 10-digit extension number, making it a 7-digit number and then save those settings. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THE PASSWORD FIELD. For all users: You will have 30 days to change over to your new 7-digit extension number. We will deactivate all 10-digit extensions on the HHUX server 30 days from today. Phone book and map updates have already been made. We truly hope the new 7-digit numbers will be easier to remember and make using Hamshack Hotline more enjoyable. Should you still have any questions please login to your Help-Desk account and create a General Inquiry service ticket. Thank you, The Hamshack Hotline Team 73 Matt NA1Q

Gaspee Days Parade Update
Spoke to the Steve Miller from the organizing committee this morning. They were finally able to test the rental commercial radios yesterday. Results were very satisfactory all along the parade route, so there is no critical need for support from BVARC members. Their only remaining concern is that, as these commercial radios use the cell network, the call volume on the day of the parade may be high enough to overload the network. A number of BVARC members have expressed interest in attending the event as spectators, myself included. If you intend to do this and would be able to bring your HT with you, we could offer to provide some limited backup for the parade organizers should there be problems. Please contact me directly by e-mail at AA1ON@... or at (508) 259 2360. 73 Martin AA1ON

Outgoing QSL Bureau
Just in case you didn't know this, as part of your club dues the club provides outgoing QSL service to the ARRL outgoing QSL Bureau for ARRL members. So how do you do this? 1) Check to see if the station worked does accept cards via Bureau. If yes, then fill out your outgoing QSL cards for DX starions. They do not accept domestic QSL cards, so here in the US just mail it to the othef US station. 2) Make sure that it clearly states the callsign of the receiving station. 3) Sometimes a station uses a QSL manager, so write on the card somewhere the QSL Manager's Callsign for the folks at the bureau. They don't have time to track down a EA#/DL#XXX station and might send the card to EA bureau instead of the DL Burea which is where the QSL Manager is. 4) include on a piece of paper write your callsign and ARRL membership number and expiration and include it with your cards. 5) at the next club meeting or consortium, bting the cards and hand them to Bob W1YRC. You can drop them off to him at his house, but contact him ahead of time to see if he us home first and to expect them. He collects as many as he can and mails or delivers them to the league when he has a bunch to go. The bureau charges by the pound for QSL card handling, not individual or card count. So sending 10 QSL cards or 100 qsl cards (about 1 lb) costs the same. So it's better to send in batches of cards as a group rather than a few at a time. And finally, wait for the W1 QSL bureau to receive cards from the DX stations for you. Important note, the bureaus can take several months to a couple years for the cards to get tothe DX station and their cards to come back. The more you know. And big thank you to Bob W1YRC for collecting batches of cards yo send to the league. 73 Matt NA1Q

Experimenting with FT8CN 5
Well I'm getting ready to do some POTA activations this month, I am not a CW guy due to hearing issues, but I do enjoy doing digital contacts via FT8 / FT4. Now I have done a few POTA activations with various radios, thr Icom IC-7300 and Yaesu FT-891, and my Elecraft KX2. And just about everyone is using WSJT-X, the standard program used by everyone. But I wanted to ditch the tablet or laptop, so I found this software program FT8CN by BG7YOZ. It works on Android phones, and using my Digirig I can hook my cellphone to the radio through the USB-C charging port of the phone, control the Elecraft KX2 and send / receive the audio through the soundcard of the Digirig. Only issue I found so far is downloading the logs. You need to go to a separate laptop or computer and connect to the IP address the phone is using for the app to download the log for uploading to Logbook of the World, QRZ, and eQSL. Only other complaint is it is the help is written in Chinese, so it's sort of guessing game on how to do things at first. It took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to start sending CQ, and another 15 to figure out how to download the logs. But once you get it, it is a worthwhile tool to add to the hamshack arsenal. Website for FT8CN is: https://github.com/N0BOY/FT8CN Website for the Digirig: https://digirig.net/product/digirig-mobile/ 73 Matt NA1Q

FIELD DAY MEETING 7
This past Saturday we had our first committee meeting for the upcoming June 22nd-23rd Field Day. Some of the more important things discussed: We will be operating 2A RI using W1DDD. Discussed possibly going 3A depending on participation. WE NEED OPERATORS! We will be having a sign-up sheet for operating times. If you want premium operating time you will have to help out in some way or another with set-up on Friday afternoon/Saturday morning or take-down on Sunday afternoon. There will be a sign-up sheet for this as well. We will have a GOTA station using NA1Q. We will have a 6 meter ¡°free¡± station for all three modes. We will be erecting a 30 foot tower for the clubs beam and using a doublet, fan dipole and possibly an EFHW antenna. We decided that you should bring your own food if you want it. Saturday evening will be pot luck again with a sign-up sheet coming out shortly. Water and Gatorade will be provided. We went through all the bonus points and have a pretty good handle on that. I will be reaching out to people to finalize some of the categories. WE NEED OPERATORS as well as people for set-up and take-down. Please help out any way you can, it¡¯s truly appreciated. Not only will it help but there is a lot of comraderie and a great feeling of accomplishment when everything is up and working. We also discussed possibly having some kind of prizes or a raffle for participation. More to follow on that! The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for April 27th on Zoom. I will be sending out a reminder when the time comes. We could use more people on the committee as well. Feel free to join in on the upcoming Zoom call if you¡¯d like to know what¡¯s going on or would like to be on the committee, I think there¡¯s still a couple of spots open! FIELD DAY MEETIG
We will be having a Field Day Committee meeting this coming Saturday, April 27th at 7:00PM on Zoom. The reason for the evening meeting is because several of the committee members will be busy Saturday morning performing a radio communications test for the upcoming Gaspee Days Parade and Road Race. Please try and attend the Zoom meeting if possible. I will be sending out the invite to the committee members later in the week. In case anybody would still like to join the committee, there are still a couple of slots open! Thanks and 73!

Gaspee Days Parade and Road Race - June 8 2024
I met with some of the event organizers a couple of weeks ago and got a more complete description of their event and communication needs. We have asked them to provide BVARC with a more detailed and prioritized list of locations / people they would like to have supported. While some radio locations will be fixed, in other cases radio support will have to keep up with event organizers as they walk along the course dealing with issues. We will carry out an initial assessment of radio coverage before the next club meeting and plan to share more details with club members then. 73 Martin AA1ON
