Re: Did you ever do a very very stupid thing in Amateur Radio?
I suspect there was no real harm. ?At worst someone else might have noticed the channel was busy. The fact that it worked is pretty cool. ?Check out “Winlink Wednesday” if you haven’t already. ?It’s a nice way to keep your Winlink Express configuration up-to-date.
If you’re interested in trying Winlink via FM packet I’m hosting a server “K1AV-10” on 145.050 in the Arnold Mills part of Cumberland. ?
As a Macintosh software developer one of the published guidelines of user interface design is that users should be able to explore safely. Any action that can’t be undone or might cause harm should be confirmed with a dialog explaining the potential consequences. ?In this case Winlink Express should have warned you that updating your channel selections over the radio could take a long time and ask if you still want to proceed. ?You did what software engineers have spent decades trying to teach the market: tried a new feature believing it was safe to explore. ?It’s harder to sell computers and new software to people who are afraid of them. |
Did you ever do a very very stupid thing in Amateur Radio?
Well I have. I was playing with Winlink this morning, registered my VARA modem software, and was playing around when I clicked the Update Channel Selection via Radio. I did noy think before I did thus, and you guessed it, it tyook forever to connect and when it did it took almost 35 minutes yo doenload the 16,000+ byte file. I sent an appology to KO2F for tying up his Winlink system on 7.105 for over 35 minutes this morning due to haste and still learning. Oh well, that's the start of my Tuesday, off to dialysis in about 1 hr 15 minutes.

CQ WPX results are in
I received my log check report from the CQ WPX CW contest this week and see the results are in.? My goal was to make 400 QSOs and possibly finish in the top 10 for single operator low power from RI.? Up until now I’ve been a casual contester spending perhaps a few hours over a weekend just for fun but gradually got more inspired by the W1DED Contest Crew on You Tube. ?437 QSOs with 100 watts to an OCFD at 35 feet.? Woohoo! 73, ?Peter K1AV P.S.? Randy K5ZD finished first in the US 1st Call Area; 2nd in North America; and 6th place Worldwide (high power).? Congrats! |

开云体育Lloyd,Did your contacts load? I just logged into tqsl and mine do not show.? They really aren’t providing much guidance to us for sure. Personally I’m very disappointed how this whole issue was dealt with by ARRL.? Hopefully we all will be up and running in the upcoming days and weeks.
