Northeast HamXposition Press Release
ROBUST LINEUP OF VENDORS AND SPEAKERS AT THE 2024 NORTHEAST HAMXPOSITION June 1, 2024
For more information, visit: ?<https://hamxposition.org/> https://hamxposition.org
Plans are shaping up for the 2024 Northeast HamXposition and New England Division Convention on August 22-25, 2024 in Marlborough, Massachusetts.
This year's convention will be held at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel & Trade Center, 181 Boston Post Road W, Marlborough, MA 01752. This venue is located off of I-495 on Route 20 west. It offers many amenities and lots of nearby family-friendly attractions and dining options.
The festivities kick off on Thursday evening, August 22 with entertainment provided by nationally known comedian Juston McKinney. Seating is limited to 250 people. Tickets are just $35, and also available as part of the "Convention Plus" package.
Join your fellow hams for a delicious DXCC/Contest Banquet on Friday night with Yuri Onipko, VE3DZ, as he recaps his 50 years of DX and contesting activities and shares his operating experiences from a variety of locations around the world. ?
Steve Goodgame, K5ATA, will present the keynote on Saturday morning. Steve leads ARRL's Education and Learning Department. He has a passion for youth outreach, and works constantly to find ways to engage more youth in wireless technology and help teachers ELEVATE their STEM programs.
The Saturday evening Grand Banquet will feature special guest Dr. Tamitha Skov, WX6SWW. Known as "Space Weather Woman" in social media, Dr. Skov forecasts and analyzes space weather processes - in the heliosphere and exosphere.
Several new vendors will have their wares on display at the convention this year: FlexRadio, Elecraft, and SteppIR Communications Systems. We'll also feature Halibut Electronics, Club Gear Online, Reliance Antennas. Remote Ham Radio, VE2DX Electronics, Gold Medal Ideas, AG Custom Gifts, and others.
New for 2024 is "Mini-Contest University," based on K3LR's popular Contest University. CTU has been featured at the Dayton Hamvention since 2007 and has been presented in 15 countries to over 10,000 participants. Mini CTU is a series of contest-oriented talks and presentations offered at HamXposition all day Friday.
HamXposition is pleased to offer a Parks On The Air (POTA) track featuring presentations designed for both newcomer and experienced POTA operators alike. There will be a functioning portable station operating on the hotel grounds designed to show beginners how to "chase" POTA contacts. In addition, an actual POTA activation will occur in a nearby state park following the prize drawing and closing ceremony.
This year, volunteers will staff a special "Get On The Air" station, W1XPO, to mentor and assist newcomers in making their first HF contact.
Our popular EmComm track will be back for 2024. Veteran emergency communicators will share their knowledge and experience to help others to "up their game." In addition to talks and presentations, convention goers will get to see operational emergency communications vehicles on display in the parking lot.
As always, the Northeast HamXposition will feature a robust flea market, open to tailgaters on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
No major convention would be worth its salt without great prizes. Along with hourly drawings, we're pleased to announce that one lucky person will receive the grand prize-an Icom IC-705 QRP all-in-one transceiver. Second prize will be a Xiegu X6100 QRP HF/6m transceiver. The third prize will be an Icom ID-50A VHF/UHF/D-Star handheld.
Tickets can be purchased in advance by visiting <https://ticketing.hamxposition.org/> https://ticketing.hamxposition.org.

This is from the ARRL letter June 6th, 2024 concerning the cyberattack at the league. Their viewpoint is tell members very little and be vague. From what I can tell, don't expect LOTW anytime in the future because it's a system everyone uses
I saw a video by a cyber security researcher who described the best practice for dealing with this type of attack.
- Bring in outside help familiar attack response and remediation.
- Disconnect the network to prevent the attacker from any further access.
- Capture forensic data.? Snapshot every system involved to collect data on how the attacker got in and what may have been compromised.
- Inform clients and customers of the breach.? There are legal requirements to notify customers and legal obligations based on what you tell them or fail to tell them.? The notifications so far appear to be professional as required by law with a possible exception of their statement around exposing personal information.
The statement says the ARRL does not collect credit card information or social security numbers.? This reflects industry standard practice so is largely meaningless (only the major CC companies, banks, or government agencies collect this kind of information for liability reasons) .? They go on to say: “Our member database only contains publicly available information like name, address, and call sign along with ARRL specific data like email preferences and membership dates.”
While it’s true every licensed amateur has the their name and address published in the FCC ULS system which is public, if this information is combined or linked to a phone number or email address, that would constitute “Personal Information”.? The ARRL could have acknowledged the possibility of such personal information being leaked unless they had cleared this possibility based on their forensic analysis.
- Finally the task of rebuilding and testing individual systems and services carefully to ensure the attacker is locked out.
Responding to this kind of attack is not a simple matter.? So far the ARRL appears to have brought in competent outside help and is following generally accepted good practice.

Meanwhile I'm uploading my logs to QRZ and eQSL, because they work.?

FYI for those using Hamshack Hotline
Hi everyone, I received an email today concerning the Hamshack Hotline VOIP System and Network.
New 7-Digits Extensions Are Here!
|
Hello, Matt NA1Q
We are writing to you to let you know that Hamshack Hotline is migrating away from 10-digit extension numbers and replacing them with 7-digit extension numbers.
This means that all existing 10-digit extensions are being converted to 7-digits.
For example, if your current extension number is '5500000122', your new extension number will be '5500122'.
Your new 7-digit extension number has already been created on the HHUX server and is ready for use!
?
Here is what you will need to do:
For users that have an IAX2 trunk extension:
You will need to modify your setup, and remove three of the zeros from the middle of your 10-digit USERNAME so it becomes a 7-digit number.
:
?
For users with a hard phone:
In order to use your new extension,?you will need to manually re-provision your phone?by going into your phones UI, then locate your extension number field, and remove three of the zeros from the middle of your 10-digit extension number, making it a 7-digit number and then save those settings.?PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THE PASSWORD FIELD.
?
For all users:
You will have 30 days to change over to your new 7-digit extension number.
We will deactivate all 10-digit extensions on the HHUX server 30 days from today.
Phone book and map updates have already been made.
We truly hope the new 7-digit numbers will be easier to remember and make using Hamshack Hotline more enjoyable.
Should you still have any questions please login to your Help-Desk account and create a?General Inquiry?service ticket.
?
Thank you,
?

Gaspee Days Parade Update
Spoke to the Steve Miller from the organizing committee this morning. They were finally able to test the rental commercial radios yesterday. Results were very satisfactory all along the parade route, so there is no critical need for support from BVARC members. Their only remaining concern is that, as these commercial radios use the cell network, the call volume on the day of the parade may be high enough to overload the network. A number of BVARC members have expressed interest in attending the event as spectators, myself included. If you intend to do this and would be able to bring your HT with you, we could offer to provide some limited backup for the parade organizers should there be problems. Please contact me directly by e-mail at AA1ON@... or at (508) 259 2360. 73 Martin? AA1ON
