Locked SLASHED ZERO ? ? ? 3
The slashed zero glyph is often used to distinguish the digit "zero" ("0") from the Latin script letter "O" anywhere that the distinction needs emphasis, particularly in encoding systems, scientific and engineering applications, computer programming (such as software development ), and telecommunications. No most Windows systems, the "0" versus the "O" are herd to distinguish. and variations in Font styles don;t help. CW- no problem -- o is Dah Dah Dah and Zero is Dah Dah Dah Dah Dah Now if used in a password or an email address, the SLASHED ZERO is in fact yet another character. But visually identifable as a ZERO not a OH.. On a windows machine to make a SLASHED ZERO it requires pressing the Left or Right ALT key and typing on the right keypad 0216..then releasing the ALT key. The numbers row over the letter part of the keyboard will not work.. THe NUM lock key must be active in order to activate the numeric keypad on a 102-108 key keyboard. Be aware JARS and NVDA screen readers will not decode a slashed zero.. End of lesson Larry W8LM

Locked Fw: GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH 2
From my QST co-author. When I lived in Michigan, Upstate, NY, New Hampshire and of course Alaska, the Northern lights were something to behold. When you actually see them live and in person; they cause a amazing awe. Larry W8LM ARRL Life Member- Licensed 57 years. GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH Photographers, warm up your cameras. A CME is heading for Earth, and it could spark an unusually good display of Northern Lights when it arrives on Feb. 17-18. NOAA forecasters say that moderate G2-class geomagnetic storms are possible. During such storms, auroras have been seen in the USA as far south as, e.g., New York and Idaho. Full story @ Spaceweather.com Vy 73, AI2Q, Alex NNNN _._,_._,_

Locked ARRL Letter and groups.io
As a Life member I get the ARRL letter every Friday. Today's letter includes a short but interesting report on the Bouvet island 3J0Y DX-pedition, the #2 most wanted DX contact.. If you are not a member of the ARRL you can read the letter at Blind-hams or email me and I'll forward my copy. Anyhow, elsewhere in the Letter it mentions: The ARRL Letter isavailable in an accessible format, posted weekly to the Blind-hams 开云体育 emailgroup. The group is dedicated to discussions about amateur radio as itconcerns blind hams, plus related topics including ham radio use of adaptivetechnology. Blind-hams group.io runs just like our groups.io. and it's fantastic the ARRL is recognizing them in it's letter. I subscribe to a number of ham radio related groups.io... Including a couple of very interesting QRP subjects (FT-817, uQDX, and T41) and an exceptional high tech groups covering Spectrum Analyzers (TinySA, and Tiny SA Ultra) and Vector Network Analyzers (NanoVNA, NanoVNA-H4) Have a good weekend, Larry W8LM ARRL Life Member- Licensed 57 years.

Locked HAM Radio Team Reaches World’s Most Remote Island
Well, it looks like today (2/13) is the last day as they are running out of gasoline to power their generators. I spent Sunday afternoon in fox and hound mode on 17 meters FT8 mode trying to hear them. I saw hundreds of Europeans and New England hams calling them, but did not detect their signal. Many were complaining they were using only 100 watts or less and a wire antenna. They were also on 30 meters. but not heard here either. Frankly I would of thought with spending a $ million or so, they would of could of had expendables air dropped on the island. Here is an article you may find of interest: https://gcaptain.com/ham-radio-team-reaches-worlds-most-remote-island/

Locked Interview with 3Y0J Team Co-Leader Ken LA7GIA. 2
Interview with 3Y0J Team Co-Leader Ken LA7GIA. "Everything is OK in the camp. The guys are good. We have a few antennas up. Running some pileups and preparing for the storm which will arrive in a few hours and last until Thursday. The boat will pull away from the island a bit. The antennas and camp are being secured. The winds are expected to be 60 knots. 9 members will stay in the camp during the storm. They will try to run two bands this evening and tomorrow. They will take down one antenna. They will run 30m and 17m using the Spider Pole on 17 and the aluminum DX Engineering antenna on 30m. The operation has proved to be extremely difficult. The most extreme expedition I've been to. Setting up the camp has been a lot of work. We will focus on CW and phone but there will be FT8. We have just discussed this today. We are running low power, only 100w. We have no amplifiers. We have three antennas set up. We are considering setting up 20m as well. So we will have 30, 20, 17, 15. The beach landings were accomplished by holding onto a line attached to a buoy and floating 15 meters to the beach in our survival suits. This is quite extreme. We float in all the equipment as well. Then carry the equipment 800 feet up to the camp. We have videos of this. We spent a few days to set up the antennas and tent then prepared for the storm that is coming. Everybody is in good shape. It's quite hard to stay here. A lot of wind, but today was a quiet, nice, and sunny day . This will change, and there will be a lot of rain. The day we arrived was a lot of wind and rain. Activating Bouvet is not like activating an island in the Caribbean. It is really windy, cold, and exhausting to bring equipment up here. It's a different DXpedition than we thought we should do. It's a challenge, but we hope we can stay on the island for some more days. Regarding dupes, please only call us if you hear us. We have very good receive here on Bouvet Island. We do not have any facility to upload the log on the island. We are saving on fuel and connection for this. When we get back to the vessel, we will likely upload. We don't know when the first upload will be. Going to Marama is very time consuming project because of the procedure involved. (Ken describes it.) The first upload may be in the weekend. Again, if you don't hear us, don't call us. Nothing more to report. Hopefully people understand the complexity of this operation. Hopefully we will be able to stay another 7 to 10 days. We are working on plans for how to continue the operation despite the difficult weather conditions here at Bouvet."

Locked Post 3115 chili cook-off and ham radio related 3
Superbowl kickoff is also that date at 5:30pm... Unfortunately I am not attending. I have attended previous Superbowls there. Because VFW3115 is one of the few venues in Wichita that sells adult beverages and people can smoke. It draws an excessive amount of smokers who enjoy sports. Current CDC.GOV statistics: Men were more likely than women to currently smoke cigarettes. About 14 of every 100 adult men (14.1%) About 11 of every 100 adult women (11.0%) They get the business and open up all 3 tiers of the building for such events. Smokers specifically come to 3115 because Derby VFW , Haysville VFW, and Mulvane American Legion all all smoke free. American Legion post 4 at Murdock and Water is closed on Sundays.. So expect a crowd, a crowd of SMOKERS! HAM RADIO RELATED PROPOSAL: Everyone knows Ham Radio Gear reacts negatively to smoke. It lowers value of any rig that's the operator is a smoker. I'd like to propose we make the VFW post 3115 radio room NON-SMOKING for that reason. Perhaps: #1. Post a sign - SMOKING PROHIBITED IN RADIO ROOM on the door. #2. Repair the door vent to include a HEPA filter, as there is an exhaust fan all ready in the ceiling in the radio room, but no filtering of incoming air. The fan is controlled with a switch next to the light switch. Larry W8LM

Locked Spring Hamfests are just around the corner
I am posting the upcoming HAMFESTS this spring 2023 within 350 miles of Wichita. I've also included "Dayton" Hamvention as it is the Mecca. but is 800 miles away. I am contemplating attending some or all of them, provided funds are avalable. If someone wanted to share expenses, I'd consider splitting both our costs. The 4 states QRP convention in Branson promotes their QRP kits. The build this year is an IAMBIC CW KEyer with paddles for a $20 donation. It is not a swap and shop as the others are. I've included links where ever possible plan any adventure. Please note March 4th there are 3 hamfests within 350 miles. THe Irving Texas is the best, as it is a suburb of Dallas and only a 5 hour drive. Dallas has some really great ham clubs. For further discussion contact me off group.... Keep warm.
