Locked FCC RETURNS 11 METER BAND TO THE AMATEUR RADIO SERVICE...
FCC RETURNS 11 METER BAND TO THE AMATEUR RADIO SERVICE Effective April 1, 2023, the FCC will return frequencies assigned to the Citizens Band Radio Service (CB) to the Amateur Radio Service. Formerly known as the 11 meter amateur radio band, it had been re-assigned on September 11, 1958 for CB use. “After much consideration, the FCC realized their 1958 decision to strip these frequencies from the Amateur Radio Service was an egregious act,” said a spokesperson. “Since the telecommunications companies didn’t want to purchase these frequencies, the FCC decided, in a reparations gesture, to return them to the amateur radio community.” The spokesperson added that current CB Radio Service users may continue to use the band and will not need to obtain amateur radio licenses. Due to congressional budget cuts, the FCC abandoned enforcement of the Citizens Band Radio Service regulations years ago. “Because of this financial shortfall, we also almost ran out of ink for the rubber stamps we use to approve all the telcom companies’ demands,” the spokesperson stated. “On top of that, the General Services Administration repossessed most of our official government vehicles so the ones we have left are used for broadcast band enforcement. The U.S Attorney’s Office won’t take our phone calls when our Enforcement Bureau tries to present criminal cases against rogue CBers. We would take their CB license away but they would just keep operating. There was no correlation between having a CB radio license and obeying the CB radio rules and regulations,” they claimed. “As a result, CB radio licenses were not issued nor renewed effective April 28, 1983.” The National Amateur Radio Confederation (NARC) released a statement praising the FCC’s decision. “We are pleased the FCC has decided to correct the error they made over 60 years ago by returning the 11 meter band to the Amateur Radio Service. NARC is all about diversity and inclusion. We welcome the opportunity for amateur radio operators to return to frequencies unjustly taken from them long ago. We hope the CB community welcomes the amateur radio operators back to 11 meters. Maybe the CBers will become interested in obtaining amateur radio licenses so NARC can sell more license testing books and materials. Furthermore, the FCC might be able to finally enforce the rules and regulations with the new license fee money they collect.” The reaction from the CBer side was not enthusiastic. The Big Linear CB Radio Club was upset. “This is the FCC’s flavor of ‘cancel culture,’” Big Linear wrote on their Faceworld page. “CBers don’t need a bunch of ‘by the book’ operators who will say things like ‘You’re off frequency’ or ‘Your signal’s too wide’ or ‘You’re over-modulating’ or ‘Don’t use cuss words.’ CB is all about freedom. Right now, many of our members are bumpin’ 5 kilowatts on channel 6 and working towards 10. We don’t need fools complaining about our signals. If y’all don’t like it, change the channel and get a better radio. We don’t want the channels jammed up with FT8 and other digital signals. We talk worldwide on our radios but we don’t play video games on them. Ditto with that ‘Morsey’ code...dot dot dit dit, dot dot dash...damned if we know.”nial. Thank you. - Submitted by: Matthew G. Locked VHF REPEATER NOT THE PROBLEM.. Problem. 4
This morning I was monitoring Blind hams on W0VFW and all of a sudden it got quiet. I cheked the repeater and got the Beep-Boop--- indicating it's on the network to the ALLSTAR server.. Last time That happened on Sunday.. Somehow it was in never never land. I rebooted and all was well. Before I rebooted I checked and ALLSTARLINK.ORG indicated we were active. So I got on my hotspot to "back door" into Blind Hams. I could and had a short QSO.. SO I rebooted W0VFW via commands.. It came up but when it came up it DID NOT identify it's internet address.. I commanded it's internet address and it would not and it would not respond, as if it's disconnected. The post is closedAll the networking is new as of last week ALLSTARLINK.ORG now says W0VFW is NOT active. WE have the local courtesy beep. We have no way to remote into our desktop PC like we used to enabling us access to the router and both Allstar repeaters. I tried rebooting same problem no IP identification when commanded to tell me. The post is a 22 mile drive and is not opened till 3pm. WE need to remedy the brick wall in place with the internet access and the new equipment the post installed. WE have a static IP address and no UDP port forwarding .. we can only connect outgoing. if we were to go to a wireless internet connection of ou town we woul dalso only have outgoing connections unless we pay for VPN tunneling.. Last time I checked COX business-- it's a business.. is $98 a month.. A work around may be to change th eALLSTAR controller to dynamic IP as we are Static now, and they may not be compatible with the new "home type" router they are using.. Posted 10:38 local 3/28/2023

Locked ARC Banner
All, I spoke with the Post Commander last night and showed him our proposed banner. I was informed that the use of the VFW Cross of Malta is copyrighted and zealously guarded. So, at this time we cannot use it. I have made an inquiry to the National VFW into it's possible use as it allowed to be used on "Select signage" but I'm not holding my breath. Hopefully, I'll hear from National HQ soon. In the meantime, I'll ask Patti G. to redesign the banner with the VFW Logo as it is shown on my business card. I'll keep you posted. Respectfully, Gaylen W. Klein, USN(Ret) President, W0VFW ARC

Locked Field Day Please Read 4
Greetings VFW Hams Tonight I am planning to attend an open meeting where planning s being done for Field Day 2023. That in no way commits the club to participate. Rather I am attending as your representative in order to learn what is being planned so that we can make an educated decision as a club as to whether to join with this larger group or simply do something on our own. I will be taking notes and report said notes back to you the members. Tonight’s meeting is being lead by Dave from WARC. They want to make Field Day a community thing and not just a gather contacts thing. They have invited all of the clubs nearby. That means although this is being organized by a team from WARC it would end up being a larger deal than that. More details will be shared once I have heard what is being planned. As we have not voted on this matter I am only representing us in order to learn how we could be involved should we desire to do so. Thus I will share what I learn so that as members we can make an informed choice. Basically as a club we have three choices as follows: 1. Field Day participation with a large community event 2. Field Day participation as a club by ourselves 3. Skip Field Day this year Just wanted to keep you informed about what is going on in the background. Please stay tuned and keep an open mind until we actually know what is being planned. Patricia, KE0TGA

Locked Home From Hospital 5
Hello Members President Gaylen came home from the hospital yesterday. While he is out of there he does have to deal with one frustration that I am sure he will not enjoy. He was told not to drive for a while. Some of you know how difficult it can be to not be able to drive. Welcome back Gaylen. 73 Patricia Hawkins, Secretary VFW-ARC
