Claremore Hamfest- really the Green Country Hamfest is 1 month away..
It's 2 day hamfest and the best hamfest with in 250 miles of Wichita.. I've been going 15-18 years..
$10,000 in prizes..
A better hamfest would be Dallas-Ft. Worth... but over twice as far..

Tables are almost sold out. I bought my 5 tables in January.. I'm right across from Associated Radio of Overland Park-Kansas City.
Here is the website to the flyer....
http://www.greencountryhamfest.org/index.php

Beautiful ride down I drive through Gardner to Caney, Bartlesville.. on the way back... Skiatok -through the lake, to Pukuska, to Ponca city ( about 5 casino's enroute) New Roads most of the way..

Since participating in Oklahoma Hamfests, I don't even bother going to anything in Kansas..

Years ago I would buy a table or two for WØVFW to sell donations the club would receive during the year.. But I'm too old and feeble now.. If you act fast you could maybe get a table or two for the club

Larry W8LMam_fm_radio@... Flash back 1976- a group of hams formed the Bi Centienal Worked all States net.. It was really fun.. The ARRL offered a BICentinial WAS award.. at th eend of the year, some of us decided to continue the group, and offr -especially new hams with modest or QRP sttions a chance to work all states and other such awards.. On 2 occasions I was involved in we had all 50 states check into the same net on 80 meters. Both times I was #50 Alaska.. They have expanded to multi modes, multi bands and have quite a following.
I am a charter member of the group.. and they just announced this years eyeball.. It floats about the country.
anyone ever hear of Guntrie, OK??? Now it's the same weekend as Huntsville, AL.. 3rd largest hamfest in the country, so I'm torn..Huntsville is 800 miles.
Here's what I know:

The 2025 Eyeball will be in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Dates for the event are
August 14-17, 2025. The location is the Logan County Fairgrounds Education
Building, 215 Fairgrounds Rd, Guthrie OK 73044. This site is just a few
minutes west of I-35.

Guthrie is a town full of history. It is the county seat for Logan County.
It was the first capital of the State of Oklahoma. In 1910, Governor Charles
Haskell called a special election to decide a permanent location of the
capital and Guthrie lost to Oklahoma City. Guthrie residents are still salty
about the loss.

Many of the downtown buildings are at least one hundred years old. One such
building currently houses a Federal Court and the Post Office.

The registration is $90.00. If you want to register now, you can send me a
check or money order to my QRZ address, made out to Clay Mayrose. You can
also Venmo the funds to me at: 405 201 6343. Matt, K2YS is working on the
Eyeball webpage and there will be online payment and more information there.
If you have special dietary requirements, let me know privately. My personal
chef is well adept in these matters.

You can easily operate from the Capital (Oklahoma City) 25 minutes south. If
you are a POTA activator, there are two entities in Guthrie. One more entity
is about 30 minutes south and several more that are less than two hours
away. I will research the park numbers and post them later. The two Guthrie
entities should be close enough to do the QRP nets. (one mile) I will

have to test that out.

Here are the places to stay in Guthrie (listed best to worst)

Holiday Inn - 2227 E Oklahoma Ave Guthrie 405-293-6464 (free breakfast)

This is the best choice according to the Emergency Manager

Hampton Inn - 401 Cimarron Blvd 405-293-9595

La Quinta --406 Heather Rd. Good afternoon,
The national American Legion website didn't say anything about limits as to who was in or out of the net. Several net secudals are in conflict with each other. I was under the impression the net was open to any ham. I have only seen a few times a VFW members were rejected from the canteen or bar. I was told I didn't qualify to join the VFW even though my uncles served in the Philpeans, France, and Germany and we're KIA in those countries, expect my father who was moved a lot to stay out of danger. I brought up the issue about two families that were VFW to the post manager and the issue was handled in some manner that the bartender/club manager and VFW customer never came back. I think more was taking place under the surface than was commonly known. I know some type of a hidden problem is or was taking at that time; and now again with lifetime members of both groups being told they have to pay a local post fee and pay a full retail price for food and drinks! This isn't going over we'll and shouldn't. We all had a common goals and objectives!
Back to HF net a conflict is taking place on paper. The Kansas Weather Net and Kansas SSB/NTS are taking place at the same time, according to what I was hearing last night. I didn't look over your net directory you used because it wasn't listed on the web.
I hope this helps.
73's
Chuck KB0TOT
On Sun, Jan 12, 2025 at 9:29 AM, Larry Macionski via groups.io<am_fm_radio@...> wrote: Chuck -

Is this net "local" or nation wide for Legion members... Dear Santa,
R&L electronics in HAMilton, Ohio.. (one of the best Ham Stores I've ever been to) has the ICOM 7300 with a 30amp power supply- Free Shipping for $999.95..A year or 2 ago just the ICOM 7300 was $1300.. I've never used one, but they are probably the most popular HF-6 meter rig going these days along with quite a selection of rigs from Yaesu.

Announced this past week is a new Raspberry Pi (RPI) Model 500.. It is modeled after the RPI400 which is quad core and 4Gb of memory. Both are encased with their own keyboard, The RPI500 is 2.4 times as fast and has 8Gb of RAM. The RPI 500 is selling for $90-120 USD. I like the keyboard feel.

Dave Slaughter K3DJS is keeper of the HAM-PI suite. A collection of over 200 ham related programs for the RPI's..I use that program suite on my RPI400 and have i connected to my YAESU FT-991A

Both.offer dual video HDMI outputs. Both run LINUX.. The big advantage of the RPI400-500 is that it will run with a 5 volt phone charger, and means it can run on a 12 volt adapter. Many video screens- including the official RPI15.1 inch monitor ($100) also will run on DC.. Making it perfect for EMCOMM-POTA-PORTABLE use..

So, Santa should you decide to get anyone these wonderful gifts for Christmas, be sure to include on the packaging from Santa and Larry W8LM...after all I suggested it..

Larry W8LMam_fm_radio@...
