Locked August Radio Club Meeting

Greetings Ham Family

On Tuesday August 27th we will hold our August club meeting. Just wanted to remind you so we can see you at the meeting.

Also a couple of reminders. First a few folks who perhaps want to be members have yet to pay their annual dues. As we don't want to leave anyone out please be sure to take care of this if you still need to pay. See treasurer Jennifer about this.

September 21st is on the schedule as a work day, a day to fix radio room and antenna stuff at the post. Please mark your calendars so you don't forget.

Enjoy your weekend.

Pat, KE0TGA
Vice President, VFW Post 3115 Amateur Radio Club

Locked Regrets

Worked all day. Relaxed about 3pm because of the heat. Made a salad for dinner. then about 6pm decided to go to the barn and finish adding the bracket to my rohn 25 repeater tower to the top of the barn just under the roof line.? I had to move the bracket 1-1/2 inch and re bolt it to the reinforcement inside the barn. I had ladders both outside and inside. so th ebracket is now centered 12-15 feet in the air with the tower.? THe tower will fold down and I have assemble another 30 feet on top of the 20, then a Comet GP 9 for the 442.00-447.00? fusion repeater I have.. I will also b eputting up a GMRS under that and a high powered ALLSTAR 2 meter node.. through a diplexer for the GP 9.
Anyhow I came in and got ice water and realized it was 7:15 and I was 25 miles from the meeting a 3115.. So? I was thinking HamRadio but not W0VFW meeting night..
Maybe next time... I've probably been to more meetings than anyone else --been a member since 2007...??
Regards,

Larry W8LM

Locked Repeater Taken Off Blind Hams

Attention W0VFW Members

Our VHF repeater has been taken off the Blind Hams node due to conduct unbecoming a ham who uses our repeater. This was brought to my attention by leadership from Blind Hams and via W8LM and I have confirmed some information by speaking with others. KC0VYJ has been addressed by others about proper on air conduct and now we are forced to take action.

The complaint involves being on air while drunk, making racist remarks, and using language not appropriate for this group. As your Repeater Trustee it falls to me to enforce repeater rules and so the VHF repeater has been taken down from the Blind Hams node while we deal with this matter.

While the club cannot prevent all bad conduct we can dictate what we permit on our repeater. Because of our affiliation with VFW Post 3115 we have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to racism and disrespect of our members and friends.

If you have any questions please contact me and I will answer promptly. The repeater may be brought back up for nets or when W8LM or KE0TGA can monitor conduct. Otherwise it will be down until I am convinced the problem is resolved.

Repeater Trustee, VFW-ARC

Locked Radio Club Meeting Reminder

Greetings Ham Family

Please join us on Tuesday June 25th for our monthly membership meeting. Gaylen will be our guest speaker and he will speak about how radio use to be. He will also bring examples so come on out and enjoy the fun.

Also because of the heat we will likely meet inside rather than on the patio unless something changes.

Dues must be paid for the new year. Yes the post views the year as from July to July, thus dues come due in July. Jennifer, our current treasurer, will accept dues at our June meeting in order to keep folks current. If you cannot do that you can also pay at the July meeting. Note that Patricia will also be updating the membership information. So when you pay your dues check with Pat to make sure she has all your current information.

See you soon.

Locked Re: Sidewalk Sale W8LM's report and observations to the group..

Good Morning

So below please see my personal observations concerning our event. For the most part I think for our first attempt it went ok, however, we do have room for improvement.

Let me first thank those who got involved and thus made this event what it was. Thanks to Phil R we had a sound system. Thanks to Larry M and Michael M we had breakfast. Thanks to Gaylen we had cooperation from the Post. Thank you Jennifer and Hazel for being delightful sales ladies. And we must not forget Mark and Carl, the ones who use to run this event every year. Thanks to Mark we had a clock to raffle off. And thanks to President Tracie the radio was purchased. Michael H helped get us the potty. I am sure I didn't get everybody, however, we do appreciate all who helped.

We had sunshine and no rain. We didn't run out of supplies. We did receive some financial donations as well. These all are blessings for which we are quite thankful.

Now on to lessons learned. I think I will address these by the problems encountered.

1. We did not clear a profit. Why didn't we clear a profit? Two reasons stand out. (a) We sold our Pennies And Eggs for only $1, not the 2 for $3 or 1 for $1.50 as decided by the members. If we had stuck with the selected price we would be closer to breaking even. (b) A potty costs quite a bit of money. That is the one thing that required us to make more money and we did not.

2. We had some communication issues. Part of this had to do with that old saying "too many chiefs and not enough indians." Also it happened because we ignored decisions made in our May club meeting. Not good. This is a club, not the army. Club members vote and we must honor their vote or voting doesn't really matter.

3. Perhaps better advertising could be considered in the future. This time Gaylen was featured on Tracie's TV program, however, not sure how many people saw it. I didn't see it, but I didn't know when it was being aired either. A few of us posted on the 520 facebook page. I announced it on the WARC and GSPARC nets. It got mentioned on Blind Hams the morning of the event. We need to consider how to better attract hams and community to our event.

Perhaps we can discuss thoughts at the board meeting when we next get together.

Thanks again ham family for coming together and enjoying our 1st time doing the sidewalk sale.

Going to be a long day for you...

I have the raffle tickets for the 50/50 and the 2 HT's.. I got antsy last night and went up to the post via a custard cone as they had me on no solids even after the procedure. The pathology report will be in a week. I had been sitting all day and sitting in a car seemed better than YOUTUBE. I did forget to check the kitchen for napkins..

Gaylen don't forget 100 coffee cups.. i think coffee cups and napkins abound in the post kitchen.
