Visually Inconvenienced Hams Net
Hello Hams
Just a reminder that the Visually Inconvenienced Hams net will be on the repeater, the 145.270 repeater, at 7pm. You don¡¯t have to be visually impaired to benefit from this weekly net. Yes I will be net control this evening, so feel free to come on out and enjoy our ham gathering. So maybe you¡¯ve never been to our net and want to know how it goes? First I go through the intro information like our purpose and any announcements. Then I take checkins. Then we have 2 questions, a ham related question and later a getting to know you question. This is a round robin net so each person is expected to take their turn answering our questions. That¡¯s how it works. Hope to see you at 7pm. Blessings Pat, KE0TGA |

So glad you are doing better Gaylen. If I read your message correctly, as I was just getting out of church, you have escaped the hospital. So happy for you.

Health update
All,
I've been moved from Wesley's ICU to their Stroke center. I anticipate being released sometime late Sunday morning or early afternoon. Why the move to the Stroke unit? They have classified the medical issue I suffered Tuesday as a stroke vs TIA. SEQUENCE of EVENTS On Tuesday i began to exhibit signs of a stroke affecting my left side. My wife immediately drove to Wesley West where they were able to administer the drug TNK within the prescribed time frame. After which my symptoms rapidly diminished and I was ultimately transported to Wesley Main. Unfortunately, the drug caused a pseudoaneurysm in my right wrist. The initial and subsequent treatment of the pseudoaneurysm caused a great deal of pain in my right arm as well as a considerable amount of stress to my already compromised mind and body. I believe that this was what caused my cardiac event, symptomatic bradycardia, early Saturday morning. In my opinion, my nervous system was essentially shutting down from overload. My wife and I made the decision to stay an extra night because of the cardiac event. A similar decision lead to the detection of the pseudoaneurysm. The "House Doctor" disagreed but going through the events of the week he changed his mind. Currently I'm on a heart monitor and will be evaluated Sunday by the Stroke team to set up a plan of action. I consider myself very fortunate over the course of the last six days. The stroke could have left me with severe and permanent disabilities. As to the pseudoaneurysm and the cardiac event - either one could have been fatal by themselves. I want to thank Patricia for her efforts to keep you informed. It was easier for me to let one person know than to shotgun the information out. I also want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers. They helped me overcome a very rough period. Gaylen P.S. I can't wait to see this bill. Don't worry though, my insurance will take care of it all. Believe me. |

Re: Sick Call KF0TG
Thanks Larry for sharing. I guess that explains why Dennis did not reply to my email or my text earlier in the week. Yes he too needs to be in our prayers.

Sick Call KF0TG
Dennis KF0TG was airlifted earlier this week to the Kansas City Medical Center. Dennis is a charter member of VFW post 3115 Amateur Radio Club.
He is a Vietnam Veteran, Black belt and Buddist. Updates will be posted at the canteen at the VFW. Tenatively he is expected to be released tomorrow. (Sunday 1/15) Dennis has a heart pump implanted about a year or more ago. He has made many, many contributions to the club over the years. Let's keep him in our thoughts and prayers. Larry W8LM. |

Re: Yaesu FT-991A
Ken Davis
Hey yaull,
Just to clear up some stuff here, yes I do have a FT-991 and I keep my firmware up to date. I program my Yaesu's using RT Systems programs. I also have a FT2D and a FT3D both HT's. The FT991 and FT991A will transmit and receive all HF bands thru 440m using C4FM mode. To try it out you can select a HF band and select MODE and then select C4FM. You will see in the upper right corner of your screen a green DN if your AMS is off. If you select AMS ON then the green DN will turn red. Ken Davis - W0KRD |

Friday Afternoon Gaylen Update
Hi Again Ham Family
Looks like Gaylen will remain in the hospital for a bit. That bruising he showed a picture of is being called a pseudo aneurism. Yes they can treat it. Thus he cannot go home for at least another 24 hours. It might be nice to stop in and visit him, as being in the hospital can get mighty lonely or frustrating when your brain is awake and you are not sedated. President Galen remains in our prayers. More updates as they are provided to me. Pat |

Gaylen Update
Good Morning VFW Ham Family
Looks like Gaylen may not escape from hospital today. While docs say it was not a stroke they are calling this a TIA. His bruises are getting bigger rather than smaller. Not good at all. He posted a picture on the 520 Crew page I believe. Still he is in good spirits and we continue to text and talk. Last night he got on Echo Link to get on the 52. His voice sounds strong and normal. Also I sent a message to the QM in order to add him to the post¡¯s sick call list. Wasn¡¯t sure who to give the info too, but since I do have Jerry¡¯s contact info I sent it to him. Yes I could have asked a post member to do it, but I figured better to do it myself and get it done. I shall continue to update so long as is needed. When he escapes from Wesley they want him to use a walker and also work with physical therapy for a time. Please continue to keep Gaylen in your prayers. |
