Soap Box-- started on 6M Saturday using a homebrew 5 element beam and 25W. We had solar powered batteries but 1B is limited to 5W .We were making contacts only with new grid squares, or countries. The lowest I can drop my power at the rig (ICOM IC756proII) was 10W
just after Dusk, 6M shut down and moved to a 80-10 Windom, our second antenna. I went to 10M. It stayed open till 22:45 local, then we went to 15M which closed at 23:30. Spent the remainder on 40M & 80M QRT at 02:00 Sunday local.

Returned Sunday about 07:00 and found 10 & 15 open. About 10:00 we found 6 open and returned there.
Highlights on 6M- 8 countries, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, Porto Rico, St. Lucia, Hati, Cuba, and Brazil. Biggest Highlight was working K1JT, Joe Taylor, the inventor of FT8 on FT8 on 6M. K1JT 1D SNJ.? The rules allowed 1D stations to contact other !D stations.I worked a lot of 1D stations too!

Lets see if we can attach the WAS map..for those interested to view.

Locked Re: FCC database with last test? (and Derby sidewalk sale tomorrow)

The testing went fine we had 11 tested. The June 17,2020 issue of the ARRL LETTER mentioned all the "catch-up testing" that has taken place in the last 2 weeks because of states just starting to open up. We are part of that deluge. I just checked and no new license have been issued to our last test group yet. The ARRL HQ is still in lockdown by the state of Connecticut. The VEC -Volunteer Examiner Coordinators, are working from home. I do not know if they are getting those testing packets we send to the ARRL delivered to them at the ARRL or if they have to go? pick them up.?

The ARRL VEC enters that data into a data package that is batch processed by the FCC in Gettysburg. Generally it is updated once a day at 5pm but because Gettysburg may also be working from home, who knows.

I have been at the FCC office in Gettysburg and it is the size of a 3 bedroom house. They have about 8-10 employees. and that is where all licenses are issued, including commercial, marine and land mobile. Surprises everyone when they find out it is that small.

I was going to call the ARRL to see if they even got our package, but no one is answering the phone at the ARRL. and the only email address is a generic vec@...

Locked Re: Raspberry Pi (RPI) and Ham radio

Ham PI V1.0 by W3DJS was released today... I am currently downloading it using uTORRENT. ETA for download is 5 hours 21 minutes.. There is going to be quite a rush to get this software. If you'd like a copy, contact me and we'll get together and burn an image on at least a 16Gb microSD card.

Hams are finding the Raspberry PI platform more than adequate for many Ham Radio applications. They are not only inexpensive but energy efficient.? Something to consider when planning a go-box, portable or emergency operations.

Anyone that wishes to experiment with me in this regard, or ALLSTAR or Repeaters please contact me.

Finally, 6 meters has been open these past few evenings I have worked 40-50 grid squares, 4 provinces in Canada, 2 call areas in Mexico and Cuba.
I hear the west coast calling Japan, and the east coast calling Europe, but I have not worked either. Last year I did, and even more. On 6 meters I am running 75-100 watts into a 5 element homebrew OWA beam at 35 feet.

Locked June VHF contest- This weekend plus Field Days info regarding logging.

from :

This upcoming weekend is the . The as of late. Don't get stuck only on FTx modes -- give CW and SSB a try if the band is open for potential higher rates.

The operating event is the June 27 weekend and for 2020 there are some . Important changes include that "D" stations can work other "D" stations for points, and that individual stations using their individual call signs submit their scores separately; entries using the same club name (make sure everyone agrees on the same exact spelling) will be aggregated under that club's name in the results. To help address questions that might come up with the rules waiver, ARRL has published for this year's Field Day event.

Locked June 27 and 28, 2020 - FIELD DAY!

Patrick Schneweis KC?ZRY

Greetings to everyone –

Field Day is June 27th and 28th of this month, so, since it’s just 3 weeks away, it’s time to start planning the annual event as best we can.? You are all aware how the coronavirus has really put a kink in all plans and preparations of activities this year. I realize some of you may not want to participate in any type of social gathering at this time. Some of you may want to come for a short time to say high and grab a bite to eat. And, some may want to hang out for a while and make Field Day contacts.? Speaking for the club, I want to say whatever you decide to do on Field Day this year is your decision and it will be received with understanding and respect.

We don’t expect everyone to be interested in making Field Day contacts.? Please feel free to come and observe and/or just visit.

?

In the W0VFW monthly meeting held on May 26th, it was decided to have Field Day at my house this year.? I have enough yard area to spread radio stations around the yard under shade trees.? If it is extremely hot or rains, we can spread out in either the basement or the shop.

Field Day Location:

Patrick Schneweis / KC0ZRY

13218 Southwest Blvd

Clearwater, KS

?

This is how I tell individuals to get to my house if they are coming from Wichita -

From the Hwy 235 and Hwy 42 Interchange, go southwest on Southwest Blvd (Hwy 42) past Cessna and Schulte. Continue on through the MacArthur and Hwy 42 intersection stop light.? Continue heading southwest and go almost one 1 mile past 119th street west.

There is an F&F Satellite Sales sign along the right-hand (north) side of the road. ?Be ready to turn into the first driveway a short distance after passing the sign.? You will see the antenna tower and a gray trim house and a cement block building next to the house.

?

If you would like to operate your own equipment and use one of the antennas available, here is some helpful information:

The available antennas are –

40 meter vertical

Hustler 6BTV trapped vertical

A screwdriver antenna with ground radials – if I can get it repaired before Field Day

?

Other items to consider bringing other than the basic station equipment –

????????????? Table and chair

????????????? Power supply or generator

????????????? Extension cords

????????????? Coaxial barrel connectors and Coaxial Cable – whatever length you have available

????????????? Laptop – The W0VFW logging database will be on the network and users will be connected via Wi-Fi.

If you want to operate under your own call sign, you will need to provide your own logging system.

????????????? Bring ropes, pulleys, insulators and any antenna you would like to use. We will figure out how to get it up.

?

Equipment/Supplies I have available –

????????????? Icom 718 and 706Mk2G - Both available to set up stations in the yard.

????????????? Kenwood TS-480HX - It will stay in the ham shack. Dipole antenna will stay attached to the Kenwood.??????????

Extension cords

????????????? Small generator

????????????? Three 12-volt automotive batteries

????????????? Antenna support poles, ropes, stakes, pulleys, insulators …etc.

????????????? An empty 25 ft fold-over pole will be erected. We will decide its best use Saturday morning.

?

Equipment/Supplies I don’t have but we will probably need –

Band-pass filters to help eliminate intrastation interference.

Two HF antenna tuners.

????????????? Coaxial patch cables

?

The current plan is to operate on a couple bands if possible.? If the intrastation interference is an issue for multi-band operation, we will figure out what to do.

?

Food and drinks provided –

Smoked ribs

Pulled pork

Buns

BBQ sauce

Bottled water and tea

Cups, Paper plates and plastic ware

?

Please bring a side dish or dessert, and soft drinks or beer of your choice.

?

Bring anything you would like to share or cook on site.??????

A gas grill and a gas infrared oven will be available

?

Agenda for Field Day –

June 27, 2020 -

????????????? Arrive around 9:00 to help set up antennas.?

????????????? Lunch at 12 noon.? Bring your own sandwiches or whatever you want to share.

????????????? Start working Field Day at 1:00 PM

????????????? Evening meal at 6:30 PM. Ribs, pulled pork sandwiches with various side dishes and desserts.

?

June 28, 2020 –

????????????? No set agenda - will play it as it goes.?

Please help clean up when we decide to shut down the event.? Field Day activity ends Sunday, 1:00 PM.

?

With the coronavirus situation this year, I would like to know how many people are interested in participating in this year’s W0VFW Field Day.? Please send me an email by June 22, 2020 so I can plan the layout of the event.

My email address: schneweisp@...

HOPE YOU TO SEE YOU HERE TO PARTICIPATE OR VISIT WITH THE GROUP.
