Locked Show & Tell from Last nights meeting.

Edited

Here is my Show and Tell from last night's meeting. My Go BOX power supply. It uses 8 -38120 LifePO4 batteries. This thing can start a car. I have it in an ammo box. LifePO4 batteries are favored over Li-ion as 4 LifePO4's in series will provide 12.8-13.2V whereas Wet cells, Gell Cells AMG and? NiCAD, are LOW and Li-ION are too high in range for useful Amateur Purposes. With my battery pack I incorporated a 100AMP Balance Management System (BMS) ... IT monitors battery performance charging and discharging as not to overcharge or undercharge causing premature failure. With a BMS it's easy to meet and exceed 2000 re charges safely... These are the batteries on YOUTUBE that a guy shorts them with a 1/2 inch open end wrench and the wrench turns cherry red.? Pictures are in the Group Photo section- click on the left menu. Full kits on Ebay are $150(no case) to $444..

I can recharge up to 80 amps and discharge to 100 amps. Batteries are rated 8 amp-HOURS. I have a source of theses batteries in Philadelphia at about $11 each shipped.
Final picture is a semi-kit I am offering I bought in excess to get better pricing. I have 2 complete Semi kits left. $30 per kit. If not gone by June 4th, I'll put them on Ebay. Totally built, I have about $110-120 into mine. It floats too in the Plano ammo box.

Just so everyone knows, The Hamvention and the QSO party are now over, but I learned that there are a number of vendors out there with some great deals.

One example is Gigaparts....They are offering a NEW YAESU FT4XR DUAL BAND ANALOG HAND HELD, with LI-ion Battery pack, Fast charger (3.5 Hr). 5 watts output and 200 memory channels... and 3 YEAR WARRANTY... for $74.95...It has a 5 - 2.5 - 0.1 watt settings which makes it nice for ALLSTAR hotspots.

Then they have the FT-65-R for 79.95 a bit older dual band 5watt Handheld.

Only bad thing is they have a $100 minimum for free shipping.. But still great prices. Yaesu has a 3 year warranty on all their stuff..

Hamvention QSO Party Saturday May 16!

By?03/25/2020
?

Let’s celebrate the many years we have all had at the Great Gathering we call Hamvention. We also want to remember Ron Moorefield W8ILC who never missed a Hamvention and contributed to our club until his recent death.Let’s light up the airwaves with our remembrances of Hamventions of the past! See you on the air!?K3LR, Tim Duffy and W8CI, Michael Kalter.

Here is the deal: 12 hour event, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDST on Saturday of Hamvention May 16, 2020.? Operate CW or SSB on 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters. The exchange is a signal report and first year you attended Hamvention. If you have never attended Hamvention you send 2020.

Send your score (number of QSOs) to??within 5 days of the event. You can print a certificate on line via?. More details will appear on the Hamvention QSO Party web site being set up now.

Special bonus: W8BI, the club call of the Dayton Amateur Radio Association (DARA is the host of Hamvention) will be activated by designated DARA members from their home stations. You can add 10 points for each band/mode QSO with W8BI (12 available). So you can earn 120 bonus points (like having 120 additional QSOs).

From W8LM collection. However my 1st Dayton was 1968 or 69.

Locked Re: April post meeting comments-

Here are the nodes in Iowa..

on the right side of the screen in the "FILTER" box put Iowa.. there are 2 screens.. switch to the second screen at the bottom right of the page..

I see there are some 10 meter .

I just about completed 4 ALLSTAR hotspots... Now I have to interface them with Raspberry PI..

The SHARI is $85 plus $8 shipping????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? $93.00
The Raspberry Pi 3B+ Virlos kit is $59.95... includes the PI, a case and 2.5A transformer.?????????????? $59.95
Then the whole thing requires a 8gB micro SD card which holds the program and all configurations. ?? $6.95
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? $159.90

I ordered 5 Shari's sold one to PAT KC0ZRY and am loaning one to Coy W?ZRY to try. There are otherblind hams that are interested, but I still have not finished gathering all the parts to roll them out.

Eventually, I want to put on ein my car or truck. You can use a celphone as a internet connection to the hot spot. The (RPI)Raspberry PI 3 has both wired and wireless networking. At the VFW on th erepeater we use a Raspberry Pi 2.. which is only wired internet.

RPI -?? 800 Mhz?? 2-USB -SD card
RPI2?? 1000Mhz?? 4-USB -micro SD card
RPI3?? 1200mhz - 4-USB - micro SD card -WIFI -Bluetooth
RPI 3+ 1400Mhz - 4USB - Micro SD card -Wifi- Bluetooth
RPI 4??? 1600Mhz -2 USB2 2-USB3- Micro SD card- Dual 4K HDMI video

Now if a RPI 2 can run a repeater, the RPI 3 is perfect for a Hotspot..

Anyhow.. maybe by 2 weeks I'll be back to my old self.?? This shingles thing is a pain..

All though the CORVIS-19 battle may or may not continue, Anchorage VEC is plowing ahead as they need to because they have such a large coverage area and Ham Radio is vital in their remote locations.

The ARRL -W5YI and Laural VEC's have not made advances, nor do I thnink they will for the time being. Perhaps by MAY 26th we will be back to normal.. If there ever was such a thing as normal.

What I'm asking the group and Pat brought it up at the meeting last night that, after 11 years of running the VE program, that someone take over or work witrh me to start a transition. In the mean time, because Anchorage ARC VEC indicated they are overwhelmed with requests etc,

Let me be the contact to them. Here is the link to their website on the matter. I will be contacting them today on behalf of the club
