mmsstv-yoniq SSTV #SSTV #vhf

A few of us had fun receiving the SSTV (slow scan tv) images from the International Space Station during their multi day event.
As I mentioned before here, Ben turned me on to a newer version of MMSSTV that did a fantastic job of automatically receiving using the Digirig interface.
This is the same USB soundcard we use for VARA and VARA FM. I simply selected the DigirigUSB as the soundcard in the setup's misc menu.
?
I didn't try any transmitting until today because I assumed there would be some additional software needed to handle the PTT.
On a lark, in the MMSSTV setup, I decided to simply assign the same COMM port I use with VARA to the PTT port menu and I checked exclusive lock.
?
Viola! It works.? Apparently, the 210x UART driver installed for VARA also works with the SSTV program. Nice.
?
If there is any interest, perhaps we could start an informal SSTV net?
Eons ago, we held them on the 147.03 machine til we ran out of pictures to send. The Internet was brand new then and pretty empty.? :)
Simplex works well for us that have out door antennas.
Thoughts?

I would enjoy this! SSTV has always peaked my curiosity. I installed the yoniq software, but have yet to learn how to set it up or use it. It appears to be smarter than I. For the ISS event I used Robot 36 on my android phone as a decoder. My results paled in comparison to those that used the digirig and mmsstv.

Did you figure out how to change the language??
That took me a little while, but after I got English menus, I was able to get if configured to use the Digirig soundcard.

I remember that,
Mostly WD0GUX (Jim) (SK) and AF0SS (Howard) (SK?)
Would mess around with SSTV on .03,
I remember back.earlier then that when they had a repeater on
146.700 (-600), They were sending RTTY with old tty printers.
Don't remember the numbers on them. But I think they were like
45 baud or something like that.
Ahhh! The good old daysI

Here's a link to a? setup guide for the MMSSTV-Y0NIQ version.

It has the instructs to navigate thru the Spanish until you can change the language.
Good for us mono linguals.
?
Like Randy says, we had some fun long ago doing SSTV on FM. We could do it again.

I was able to spend more than 5 minutes with yoniq tonight. After a 30 minute class at the University of YouTube, Kerkhoven campus, I found myself down a rabbit hole with no rabbits to speak of. After re-reading this thread and changing a few settings N0QBH mentioned in a previous posts I was transmitting like I actually knew what I was doing. I'm learning and experimenting on VHF as I don't yet have the cables to support my HF rig, but hey it's progress! Once I become more proficient with the photo editing and resizing? part of the game, SSTV will be loads of fun.?
