Ben and the group,
The Emergency Broadcast System information I sent this week is a “Bulletin” from the General section of Winlink forms.? The bulletin sent was a homework assignment from EAST-COAST to research and communicate the EBS information for our area.?
Decided to share.?

?
In addition, I encountered two new (to me) forms this week.? Shawn sent an "I Am Safe Message" and Tim sent an Emergency Broadcast System message.? My homework is to see what that one is for.

Another tip I learned this week is that Winlink Express is only able to accept P2P messages using one modem at a time, but PAT is able to use any or all of your configured modems at the same time.

Re: W0NE Winlink Net Roster - 2-27-2025
Hi Chris,
I stole these instructions from??at the bottom of the page.? Since you already have Winlink Express and your modem configured, steps 3 and 5 are the critical steps.? I'd also suggest not using Winmor :-)
To receive peer-to-peer connectivity, you will need to follow these steps:
- Launch Winlink Express or Airmail and enter your callsign and password. If you do not have a password, leave it blank and one will be assigned to you after your first connection. You can also enter your grid square and recovery email address for your account settings.
- Choose the mode of operation from the drop-down menu on the top left corner of the window. For this article, I will use Winmor Winlink, which is a data mode for HF radio. You can also choose other modes, such as Packet Winlink, Pactor Winlink, or Vara Winlink, depending on your equipment and preference.
- Open a session by clicking on the Open Session button on the top right corner of the window. This will open a new window where you can see the status and progress of your connection. You will also see an icon down in the taskbar for your virtual TNC software, such as SoundModem, Direwolf, or Winmor TNC. Click on it (or Alt-Tab to it) and another window will open up that shows the waterfall, meter dials and transmission speed for the session once underway, along with other information.
- Tune your radio to the frequency of the peer station, and adjust your interface device and virtual TNC software settings to optimize your radio communication. You will need to set the audio levels, the modulation mode, the baud rate, the frequency correction, and other parameters according to your radio and interface device specifications. You can also use the Test and Tune function of Winlink Express or Airmail to test your radio connection and adjust your settings accordingly.
- Listen for the peer-to-peer call by clicking on the Listen button on the session window. This will put your station in a listening mode, and wait for a call from the peer station. If the peer station initiates a call, you will hear the sound of the data transmission on your radio speaker or headphones, and see the status and progress of the connection on the session window and the virtual TNC window.
Let me know if you want to try accepting connections this week, or want to test things out before hand.

Hello Everyone,
We had 9 check-ins this week from 8 participants. Here is the roster:
Shawn, KD9KGQ, Holmen, La Crosse County, WI, USA, VHF Packet Ben, KU0HN, Lewiston, Winona, MN, VARA HF Dan , KE0UQU,Winona ,Winona County, MN Vara HF via W9CWC Jeff, K6BSY, Fair Oaks, Sacramento, CA, VHF Bruce Lange; KC9LLI; Elroy; Juneau; Wi; Telnet Ken, W9GM, La Crosse, La Crosse, WI, USA, ARDOP, 40M, via N0LCR-1 Ken, W9GM, La Crosse, La Crosse, WI, USA, VARA, 30M, via VE3KPG Lance Tagliapietra, AD0UT, Winona, Winona, Minnesota, Telnet Paul, N0BBD, Washington, Franklin, MO, USA, VHF, VARA FM
We haven't tried P2P check-ins for a while so that will be the exercise next week. If anyone else would like to accept P2P check-ins for the net next week, please let me know. I've found that successfully receiving the check-ins is more of a challenge than sending them. We could potentially have several stations accepting check-ins on different frequencies or modes.
