Hello, neighbors! Just wanted to let you know about new neighbors in and near my house. Andre, a 17 year old IHS student, will be staying with me for the foreseeable future. He is a polite young man who you’ll see coming and going with me or by bike. I hosted a girl, Hasnaa, a couple years ago, for about 10 months as she finished high school. Let’s hope I have the patience for one more teen! Also, in the big spruce behind my house, Liz Kinast discovered a Merlin pair. They have hatched what we believe are 3 young ones who may fledge in a couple weeks. If you see John Confer, retired IC prof and Merlin enthusiast, on the street with his cool bird lens, stop and say “hi” and he’ll gladly show you them and tell you more. They are beautiful birds, only about 15 pair nesting in Tompkins County. They do eat songbirds so some of us have taken feeders down or not filled them, so as not to lure them to a bird buffet.
