VCFD Radio Communications
To the Valley Cottage Firefighters - Below is my interpretation and brief summary of the “Communications Procedures & Guidelines for Rockland County Fire Services” recently updated by the County Fire Coordinator. Their full document is attached for your review. When to use the radio: Incidents Training (only on UHF Fireground Channel 8 AKA “Training 1”, or UHF Fireground Channel 9 AKA “Training 2”) When to use the phone & NOT use the radio: Non-incidents Non-training *44-Control can be called by phone at 845-364-8500 *Emergencies not related to active incidents can be reported to 911 When speaking on the radio: Only speak when necessary Be brief Be professional Use a normal voice Hold the mic a few inches from your mouth. If SCBA is on, hold your mic next to the facepiece voice emitter on either side. Use plain English (e.g. say “Received” to acknowledge) Use radio designations, for example: Say “22-1” to contact the Chief Say “44-Control” to contact Control Say “22-1501-Can” if that is your riding position Identify yourself first, then say who you are calling (e.g. say “22-1500 to 44-Control)” How to use the radio: Use the right radio “700” labeled mics will communicate with 44-Control. The primary talk group is “Fire 1”. Different talk groups, if directed to switch to them, are available on those radios. “HI” labeled mics represent the generic term “High Band” and will communicate over the Ultra-High-Frequency (UHF) Fireground Channels. Fireground 1 is the Valley Cottage channel, shared with Central Nyack, West Nyack, and Haverstraw. On our portables, the channel selection dial can be turned all the way to the left or all the way to the right for our Fireground 1. Make sure it is on Wait until nobody else is speaking Push and keep holding the button Wait to speak until after hearing the tone (count three seconds) Keep holding the mic until you finish your message, then let go. EXPECT FIRE. EXPECT VICTIMS. Stephen C. Rockland County FTC: Extrication Course Offerings
To all VCFD Firefighters - See attached for changes to the county extrication class schedules. - Wisely Begin forwarded message: From: "Byrne, Peter" <ByrneP@...> Date: April 2, 2025 at 3:59:39 PM EDT To: "Peter W Byrne (Pbyrne@...)" <pbyrne@...> Cc: "Kear, Christopher" <KearC@...>, "John C. Chiefs, Training Officers and Commissioners A lack of registration have us changing the offerings that were sent out on March 4th. We dropped Session A, Session B changed to Extrication 101 which the new flyer is attached. Session C will stay the same as Extrication 102. Any questions please give me a call Pete From: Byrne, Peter <ByrneP@...> Sent: Tuesday, March 4, 2025 11:29 AM To: Peter W Byrne (Pbyrne@...) <Pbyrne@...> Cc: Kear, Christopher <KearC@...>; Healy, Michael <HealyM@...>; Powell, LuAnn <PowellL@...>; John C. Checco <john.c.checco@...>; FD22 Dennis Borrelli <Toybuff911@...> Subject: Extrication 102 Session A, B and C Offerings Chiefs, Training Officers, Commissioners and DFC’s We are offering Extrication 102 three times – Session A, Session B and Session C. Each Session is limited to 16 students as this is an intense hands on training. This course also uses many vehicles therefore we once again will ask you to make sure your firefighter that signs up for this course can make all three dates in the session they choose. This is a popular class so we expect to fill up quickly. To take a spot knowing you cannot make all dates is wrong. We are planning on offering this course again later in the year so if these dates do not work wait till the next offering comes out. Simply stated, when training isn’t prioritized, funded and advocated, you eventually will pay the bill. This cost for lack of training always is higher then the cost of continued training……….
