Vara HF on Gateway
It's true. Vara HF will not forward unless the Gateway has a license for the Callsign. I have a Pactor SCS-PTC and the Gateway forwards data that way, that is what I've read. 73 ?? Unless you specifically want your HF RMS Gateway station to forward messages by radio, when internet services aren't available (RADIO - ONLY operation), VARA HF will operate on your gateway station, at full speed, without a VARA license.
?
VARA FM will also operate at full speed on a VHF / UHF FM RMS Gateway station without a VARA license. However, the VARA license is required if you want the VHF / UHF FM gateway to provide digipeater service.

Correction..
It has just been pointed out to me that I was confusing Winlink gateway "radio - only" mode with Winlink gateway "hybrid" mode.

What I should have said is that you can set up a combined HF and VHF/UHF FM hybrid gateway system, and disable radio forwarding by selecting the "Do not forward messages via HF" radio button in the "HF Message Forwading Control" frame of the Gateway Setup "Operating Mode and HF Forwarding Contol" window.... like so:

That should eliminate the "can not forward messages without a license" warning, when using VARA without a license.
