VARA FM over KISS TNC?
Greetings,
?
Recently a handheld radios known as VERO VR-N76 (with two siblings sold as BTECH UV Pro and Radiooddity GA-5WB) received a firmware upgade, which made a KISS TNC available over Bluetooth to user applications. This move makes all transformer / optoisolator coupled interfaces redundant. But the application needs to be Bluetooth / KISS protocol capable. It seems to me that VARA FM does not support such interface. If I am wrong, would somebody please guide me towards proper settings for VARA CHAT, Winlink / VARA etc.
?
Best regards,

Packet TNC expose a digital interface, namely the bottom half of the AX.25 protocol. Think of a TNC as a hardware modem (MODulator/DEModulator) + sound card + PTT control. With AX.25 the modem is usually using 1200 AFSK for VHF/UHF. VARA FM is a software modem that uses a proprietary protocol and requires a sound card. In the future, it's possible that radio maker would expose a raw sound card interface via BLE and perhaps some CAT control as well. This would allow for software modem implementation to simply send an analog audio signal to the radio. For now, you have to use a sound card like the DigiRig. |
