APRS-over-VARA & VarAC Chat at Dayton Hamvention

开云体育

I will be exhibiting "Studio B" (my mobile Hamshack on wheels - uEOC - Radio test lab - and QRP AM stereo/ FM stereo broadcast station) at the Dayton Hamvention? Emergency Comms Vehicles Expo again this year.? "Studio B" is a 12-foot Aliner folding A-frame camper packed with radios and electronic gadgets.? Details here:

??

I will be demonstrating ? APRS-over-VARA?? and?? VarAC Chat ? (keyboard-to-keyboard live chat client and file-transfer tool).? Both run on top of the VARA high-performance HF soft modem.?

I will be beaconing the location of the Emcomms Vehicle Expo as an APRS object on normal VHF AX.25 APRS,? and into the APRS Internet system Thursday, Friday and Saturday.? Currently, you can view the Hamvention-area map on my APRS special event web server at:

Be sure to click the link for "Close-Up View of Event".

Stephen,
Looking forward to seeing you there. I live just north of Xenia in Springfield. I don't have my VARA HF APRS running at this time but do have my VHF station going. Just wondering if you are still using UI-View or something else.

73, and see you in a few days

UIview forever!???

It's still the only APRS program that can produce? fully-scrollable, zoomable vector-based maps without an Internet connection.? (Precision Mapping caches ALL of North America including Canada at street level and Mexico entirely on your local hard disk. Invaluable in the field where there are no cellular/internet connections.) ? Plus the ability, courtesy of the Precision Mapping 9.0 plug-in,? to overlay/underlay ESRI Arcview and MapInfo .MIF vector databases used by most state and local governments. Not to mention underlaying scanned bitmap images of USGS TopoMaps.?

Further, my map displays have NOT been trashed by Google's new horrible all-grey-roads color scheme!? [Virtually all other APRS mapping systems depend, one way or another, on Google Maps.]? Or on Open Streets with it's undifferentiated route shields. (All route numbers -- Interstate, Old US numbers, State and County -- look the same.)
