Alinco DR-135 Mk III Spurs on key up issue

The Alinco DR-135 series are good radios for VARA RF Wide as it they have an analog unfiltered interface.? I have a number of these.? I was just made aware of a potential problem with the Mark 3 versions.? Spurs on keyup (see attached article).? I was able to duplicate the problem on two Mark 3 radios but I did not see the problem on two Mark 2 version radios,? There is a potential fix that involves removing two components.? I will try the fix when I have time.

Speaking for the ARES group in the Washington state capitol, Olympia/Thurston Co. I am very interested in the outcome here.
Based on your report I will mod at least a couple of the radios used for VARA in the county.

Are they being used with mic/speaker audio, or the dedicated data port on the back? I used mic/speaker audio on my Mark II but could never realize high speeds with VARA-FM. As I recall, I resorted to mic/speaker audio because the rear audio port would not work for some reason.

Best regards,

Gary,

Have you opened the radio to see if it has the optional internal TNC installed?? If so, remove the TNC and connect the 9pin directly to the motherboard.

I have the optional TNC, however removed it years ago, as it is sub par as compared to a 'real' TNC. I don't recall whether the DB9 was plugged directly into the motherboard. I'll have to open it and see. Thanks for the tip.
