Radio Audio in Computer Speakers

I'm using a Kenwood TS-480SAT and a Signalink USB to run Winlink.? I have the paid version of VARA HF.? I am running Windows 11 on a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 laptop.? I don't use WInlink that often, so I thought I would check it out.?
?
I could receive signals, but the PTT on the Signalink would not illuminate, so no RF transmit from the radio.
?
Eventually I got that fixed, and I can send and receive e-mail via Winlink.?
?
The issue is that audio from the radio is going to the speakers on my laptop.? I get audio on the radio AND the computer speakers, simultaneously.? This is not a show stopper, but it is something different that before.
?
Here is the information from Signalink to solve the problem:? "TIP:? If the comms program is properly configured to use the SignaLink's USB Audio Codec sound card for both transmit and receive, but the transmit audio is heard in your computer speakers, then you can usually fix this by restarting the comms program.? If this doesn't work, then open the comms program's sound card setup and select a different sound card for output.? Click OK or Save (as applicable) to save the settings, then re-open the program's sound card setup again and set it back to USB Audio Codec.? This should resolve the issue." ?
?
I tried the above fix, but the issue remains.
?
Has anyone else encountered this issue and instituted a successful fix?
?
Thanks,
?
John

That problem is centered around the "new" way that Win 11 handles sound devices.

I have a possible solution for you, but am presently unable to get to my computer to send that info to you.

If someone else here has not helped you, I will do so as soon as I can.

You might try looking at this setting: right click on your speaker icon in the taskbar, and then click on Sound Settings. In this window scroll down to More sound settings. This should open up a window with a list of sound cards. Click on Recording, and then double click on your microphone/sound card. By default it should be USB Audio CODEC. Even though you are not using a microphone, it is still labeled this way in Windows and is the input to the Signalink from the radio. In this window click on the Listen tab. There is a box that you can enable to listen to what the microphone can hear, or in this case what the Signalink can hear from the radio. This should typically be disabled or unselected.

John,
Signalink has, in my opinion, one of the best set of set-up documents in the industry when it comes to an external audio soundcard interface.??

If I recall correctly, they have a special section on their website concerning Windows 11....let me look.

Here you go!??
https://tigertronics.com/sl_suprt.htm#Windows_11_Information

My advice is to carefully follow their setup instructions, again.? Don't just start in the middle somewhere.....start at the beginning.? I

've used the Signalink USB interface on 2 different HF radios (Yaesu & Icom), one old, one new, and it has worked perfectly and did not demonstrate the problem you mentioned.? And for what it is worth, the Windows OS in both cases was Windows 10 and Windows 11.? So I'll vouch for the validity of their documenation.??

I am confident you missed missed a step or perhaps selected the wrong option which is causing your sound issue.? I recall sections of the instructions where it says if you don't get a specific result at that point in the setup, stop and go back and recheck your steps.??

Give it another try, take your time, and you'll get the desired results.? Good luck and 73!?

I've tried using Signalink USB with my gateways on a Windows 11 machine and could never get it to stop dropping the S/N ratio to pitiful values after 24 hrs or so of being plugged in, so I went with Digirigs. I don't know how many people are running their Signalinks 24 hrs a day though. Hopefully John can get his station working.

I will say that I have used W11 and my signalink for running both a RMS and APRS for months at a time with no issues.
