Does anyone here have experience with the (now discontinued) Alinco DR-135TMKIII?? ?Will it support VARA FM wideband through the rear pane; DB-9 connector?? What other 2m radios would anyone recommend?for VARA FM? Yeasu?

Yes it will. I run 2 of them. One for my user station and the second as my VARA FM/packet gateway.theyve been up and running for 3 years now. I use the Repeater Builders RIM Lite boards for the Alinco (9600). You get the highest possible speeds with this.

Yes I use one for VARA FM wide and one for packet, both RMS 24/7. ?Masters Communication makes a nice db9 to mini din 6 adapter for the rear port.?

Just ordered an Alinco DR-135TMKIII from Antenna Farm (only source that still had new units).? Also the Repeater Builder adapter specifically for VARA FM and Alinco DR-135.

Did? you know that there is for Motorola radios a audio interface from: ?
You need the RIM Maxtrac 9600 for the Motorola.
For the Alinco there is the RIM Alinco 9600.
?
Warning: always use a good shielded USB cable and if possible with RF chocke.

I have used the DR135 for several years using the Masters Comm DR-50.? It operates VARA FM Wide and is solid.

I just received my Alinco DR-135T from Antenna Farm.? Programmed it immediately?using RT Systems software and info from my ICOM IC-2200H. This is an obsolete?radio and they are the only source I found who still had stock.? I also got the modem module from Repeater Builder, specifically?made for this radio and 9600baud VARA FM. The module plugs into the DB9 on the radio and has a USB interface to the PC.? I haven't?been?able to try it on the air for VARA FM yet as the local node is still awaiting?a frequency assignment from the coordonator. This eario also has airband AM receive like the 2200H.? The newer 2300H and latest ICOM omit airband.?
