Vara FM and IC-9700

Having some issues with frequency control with VARA FM on the 9700.? Radio keys, but does not change frequency if selecting another station.? Works with other software (flrig and fldigi).? I've watched several videos posted by other people and followed their settings for the radio and software.? Any ideas appreciated.? ?73

Vara fm does not have frequency control. Most vhf radios don¡¯t have it so it is not in vara fm.?

Noel, David...

Don't blame VARA!!

Neither the "VARA HF" or the "VARA FM" software-modems include any "CAT" (Computer Aided Transceiver) functionality. When either software modem is used with the Winlink Express radio-email program, or the "VarAC" or the "VARA CHAT" radio-chat programs, it is the host program that provides CAT functionality.

In the case of Winlink Express, CAT functionality is provided in the "HF Session" component (for "Vara HF Winlink" or "Vara HF P2P" sessions). This same CAT functionality is also present in the "... HF Winlink" or "... HF P2P" sessions that use other software modem programs, such as ARDOP or Robust Packet.

The Winlink Express developers never provided CAT functionality for the "VHF / UHF FM" sessions that make use of "VARA FM" or "Packet" software modem technology.

I use Winlink and Vara HF all the time and frequency control DOES work on my 7300 when doing P2P.

I didn't say you don't have "frequency control" when using VARA HF... only that the frequency control (via CAT) is implemented in the "Vara HF Winlink" or "VaraHF P2P" session component of Winlink Express, not in the VARA (HF or FM) modem software.

It would have been redundant for the VARA software developer (Jose Nieto Ros) to implement CAT functionality in the VARA HF software modem, and pointless to provide CAT functionality in VARA FM.

Yeah I wish the winlink developers would add that for FM radios that have it. My old Kenwood TM-V71 and TM-D710 both have cat control, as does my IC-9700. It's surprising they never added it for radios that support it.

Well we get what we paid for! Hi hi
