Re: Radio Audio in Computer Speakers

I will say that I have used W11 and my signalink for running both a RMS and APRS for months at a time with no issues.

If you are?using your callsign and you have it licensed. OK

If you are?using another call. You can use varafm?barebones but getting a license you get opens up the audio tnc program.?

Re: When starting VARA USB Keyboard wont work, only with TENTEC Jupiter as the radio

Rory
Is your keyboard connected to a powered USB hub?

If it is a laptop keyboard then your computer should be always allowing you to work with it.
If using an external keyboard (USB,) then I would suggest defining it with device manager for the com port assigned by hub be looked at.

Re: Radio Audio in Computer Speakers

I've tried using Signalink USB with my gateways on a Windows 11 machine and could never get it to stop dropping the S/N ratio to pitiful values after 24 hrs or so of being plugged in, so I went with Digirigs. I don't know how many people are running their Signalinks 24 hrs a day though. Hopefully John can get his station working.

Re: Radio Audio in Computer Speakers

John,
Signalink has, in my opinion, one of the best set of set-up documents in the industry when it comes to an external audio soundcard interface.??

If I recall correctly, they have a special section on their website concerning Windows 11....let me look.

Here you go!??
https://tigertronics.com/sl_suprt.htm#Windows_11_Information

My advice is to carefully follow their setup instructions, again.? Don't just start in the middle somewhere.....start at the beginning.? I

've used the Signalink USB interface on 2 different HF radios (Yaesu & Icom), one old, one new, and it has worked perfectly and did not demonstrate the problem you mentioned.? And for what it is worth, the Windows OS in both cases was Windows 10 and Windows 11.? So I'll vouch for the validity of their documenation.??

I am confident you missed missed a step or perhaps selected the wrong option which is causing your sound issue.? I recall sections of the instructions where it says if you don't get a specific result at that point in the setup, stop and go back and recheck your steps.??

Give it another try, take your time, and you'll get the desired results.? Good luck and 73!?

Re: Radio Audio in Computer Speakers

You might try looking at this setting: right click on your speaker icon in the taskbar, and then click on Sound Settings. In this window scroll down to More sound settings. This should open up a window with a list of sound cards. Click on Recording, and then double click on your microphone/sound card. By default it should be USB Audio CODEC. Even though you are not using a microphone, it is still labeled this way in Windows and is the input to the Signalink from the radio. In this window click on the Listen tab. There is a box that you can enable to listen to what the microphone can hear, or in this case what the Signalink can hear from the radio. This should typically be disabled or unselected.

Here is the information from Signalink to solve the problem:? "TIP:? Re: VARA? Disconnects USB Keyboard

Check your station ground and antenna system. The other thing would be some snap-on ferrite cores on any USB cables that are having trouble. It is true that cheaper USB cables have less (or no) shielding.

When you say "output of the Signalink", if you're talking about transmit audio, that signal is available on the SignaLink back-panel "Mon" output jack.

?

The SignaLink "Aux" output jack is used to route receive audio to an extarnal speaker when the receive audio signal is routed to the SignaLink through a cable from the radio's external-speaker output jack to the SignaLink "SPKR" input jack.

?

Smiley's Alinco DR-185 radio requires the use of the "SPKR" audio cable because it doesn't have a "DATA" connector, and it doesn't output receive audio on the microphone connector. The only way to get the receive audio signal out of the DR-185 is through the back-panel external speaker connector, and plugging a cable into this connector disables the radio's internal speaker.

Again, this is RFI !? Transmit RF is getting back into the shack and cables.??? The VARA "Tune" button produces a single RF tone like keydown CW.? When this single RF frequency is picked up by wiring in the shack and gets into the USB port,? diode-detection? by circuitry in the USB port produces only a single DC voltage.? Nothing much happens.? This will be true of any mode that generates only one tone at a time such as RTTY, MFSK, analog SSTV, etc.

When you actually transmit with VARA, you are generating a complex multi-tone signal with at least 11 simultaneous audio tones which create multiple RF signals side-by-side.? When this complex RF mix gets diode-detected by the USB port's electronics, you get multiple audio frequencies,?? as the various RF freqs beat against each other.?? When these AC signals are? fed into the USB port routines, USB data flows are screwed up and locks up the port until the RF goes away.

Again, what kind of antenna are you using, and how close to the shack is it????
