Ron VA7HZ If you are?using your callsign and you have it licensed. OK If you are?using another call. You can use varafm?barebones but getting a license you get opens up the audio tnc program.? 73? Hello group, I am fairly new to some parts of Vara I have a registered copy under one callsign but I am looking to set up a vhf gateway as there is very little coverage in my area. I wish to use another callsign I own for the gateway. Do I need to purchase another license or can. Not a problem either way

Re: When starting VARA USB Keyboard wont work, only with TENTEC Jupiter as the radio
Rory Is your keyboard connected to a powered USB hub? If it is a laptop keyboard then your computer should be always allowing you to work with it. If using an external keyboard (USB,) then I would suggest defining it with device manager for the com port assigned by hub be looked at. When starting VARA USB Keyboard wont work, only with TENTEC Jupiter as the radio
Hi all,
???? So I tracked down the cause (kinda).? Only when I start VARA HF and the modem Sound Card is connected on the OUTPUT side to the Jupiter Sound Card.? The INPUT connection does not affect the keyboard.? I verified there are only default settings for the Sound Card for INPUT and OUTPUT.? The Jupiter sound connects via a Signalink with SLMOD5PD card and SLCAB5PD cable to the 5pin DIN on the radio.? A RS232 to USB cable for CAT control.? The INPUT sounds appears on the waterfall.?
????? When the VARA HF MODEM starts, the keyboard no longer functions.? When I change the OUTPUT to any other sound card the keyboard works.? Switching it back immediately blocks the keyboard.? Notice the radio was never in transmit mode.? No RF.? Just the sound card interfering with the sound when it is connected via VARA HF.? Any ideas?

Re: VARA? Disconnects USB Keyboard
Hi,
???? To all who responded, thank you.? Please note however the following.? This occurs when I start up this particular VARA.? No transmission occurs.? As soon as VARA starts up, the keyboard goes away.
?
???? So in further investigation and usage I have found the cause (in a way).? i am closing this message and opening another with the new information.

Re: Vara FM and Alinco DR-B185
After all the suggestions and modifications you all have helped me with I am able to get vara fm to work correctly. I'm not sure what the key was but I appreciate so much all of the input I have gotten from you guys.
?
Mark was supposed to have a Team Viewer session with me this afternoon but that won't be necessary after all.

Again, thanks so much!

Re: Radio Audio in Computer Speakers
I've tried using Signalink USB with my gateways on a Windows 11 machine and could never get it to stop dropping the S/N ratio to pitiful values after 24 hrs or so of being plugged in, so I went with Digirigs. I don't know how many people are running their Signalinks 24 hrs a day though. Hopefully John can get his station working.

Re: Radio Audio in Computer Speakers
John,
Signalink has, in my opinion, one of the best set of set-up documents in the industry when it comes to an external audio soundcard interface.?? If I recall correctly, they have a special section on their website concerning Windows 11....let me look. Here you go!?? https://tigertronics.com/sl_suprt.htm#Windows_11_Information My advice is to carefully follow their setup instructions, again.? Don't just start in the middle somewhere.....start at the beginning.? I 've used the Signalink USB interface on 2 different HF radios (Yaesu & Icom), one old, one new, and it has worked perfectly and did not demonstrate the problem you mentioned.? And for what it is worth, the Windows OS in both cases was Windows 10 and Windows 11.? So I'll vouch for the validity of their documenation.?? I am confident you missed missed a step or perhaps selected the wrong option which is causing your sound issue.? I recall sections of the instructions where it says if you don't get a specific result at that point in the setup, stop and go back and recheck your steps.?? Give it another try, take your time, and you'll get the desired results.? Good luck and 73!? Stu -- N7QJP |
Re: Radio Audio in Computer Speakers
You might try looking at this setting: right click on your speaker icon in the taskbar, and then click on Sound Settings. In this window scroll down to More sound settings. This should open up a window with a list of sound cards. Click on Recording, and then double click on your microphone/sound card. By default it should be USB Audio CODEC. Even though you are not using a microphone, it is still labeled this way in Windows and is the input to the Signalink from the radio. In this window click on the Listen tab. There is a box that you can enable to listen to what the microphone can hear, or in this case what the Signalink can hear from the radio. This should typically be disabled or unselected.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThat problem is centered around the "new" way that Win 11 handles sound devices. I have a possible solution for you, but am presently unable to get to my computer to send that info to you. Smiley's Alinco DR-185 radio requires the use of the "SPKR" audio cable because it doesn't have a "DATA" connector, and it doesn't output receive audio on the microphone connector.
