Re: VARA Modem for Linux

Porting over to Linux depends upon his time, of course, but more importantly how VARA is coded. If there are lots of hooks into Windows, that would make porting or conversion very difficult.

Re: VARA Modem for Linux

Anyone volunteer to persuade EA5HVK / Jos¨¦ into making a binary version that run on Linux ?

There are a large number of Linux users,Raspberry/Orange/* ¨C Pi users who mostly run Linux in addition to a substantial fraction who run Linux on x86 on our laptops.
A Linux version would probably generate some more revenue also.

How much request have he received from the Linux users ? Maybe it¡¯s possible to talk him into building a Linux version ?

I'd be happy if EA5HVK / Jos¨¦ were to make available a binary blob we could use - perhaps he'd consider that while also protecting his source code.

Re: VARA FM DIGIOEAT

Curious why you have to shut down Packet to tune VARA FM?? ?I "ping" all the time with Packet open.

Re: VARA FM DIGIOEAT

John, Thanks. I ?assumed that was the case but wanted to check before offering my RMS as a digipeater for our upcoming SET. I have had to shut down RMS Packet when auto tuning or pinging with VARA FM with a neighboring station.?

Re: VARA FM DIGIOEAT

VARA FM will digipeat while RMS Packet is running or if VARA FM is running alone. I'm pretty sure that if someone is connected to the RMS Packet gateway through VARA FM then it won't digipeat.

VARA FM DIGIOEAT

Will VARA FM digipeat when running in RMS Packet, or does RMS Packet have to be turned off to let VARA FM run alone?

Re: VARA Modem for Linux

Given enough demand your (mine and many others) it might come true. However, more proable it might not be possible to get EA5HVK / Jos¨¦ to build a version for Linux, let provide an open source version.??
It's a pity, but I would bet on development of an open source project to provide something similar performance wise.?
Emulating x86 with box86, using Wine and Pat provide a viable option, far from perfect but ok.

Re: VARA FM high CPU

*** RESOLVED ***

Guess what.? The problem is caused by Windows Remote Desktop.
Despite the fact this was correctly set up not to change the Audio settings (but leave these playing on the remote PC) it *still* stuffed up the audio systems.
Specifically the VARA-FM interface.? NOT the VARA-HF interface!

When I attached another VARA-HF to the second audio interface, nothing happened.
But the moment VARA-FM is running, and *then* I would connect to the PC with Remore Desktop, VARA-FM would immediately lose the connection to the audio interface.
While the VARA-HF just kept working normally.

I am now using "Remote Utilities" and all problems are solved.

Still: There is an issue with VARA-FM in this situation.

Re: Free trial mode despite registration

Lee;

If you haven't already done so (as others have recommended), copy and paste the call-sign and Registration Key from the email to the corresponding fields on the VARA Setup screen.

You possibly have a corrupted VARA.ini file, with garbage characters in the Registration Key record. Pasting in the Registration code from your registration email should fix that.

You definitely can have registered VARA HF / VARA FM (with the same license key) on multiple computers, so previously having it installed on another computer shouldn't make any difference.

Is the call-sign you have entered in the "Settings -> VARA Setup" window -exactly- the call you submitted for the VARA registration?

Yes,

Yes, it's still on Gmail. This isn't the first time I've received the pop-up about free trial mode. The previous time I went back to the original email and copy/pasted it from there.?

Mark,

?

Negative - no change to my call sign.

?

If I restart VARA and monitor the VARA port in the G8BPQ software I get this:

?

01:07:16R ENCRYPTION DISABLED<cr> Port=7

01:07:21R REGISTERED K5DAT-7 K5DAT-1 K5DAT-11 K5DAT<cr> Port=7

?

I was seeing the above, however, before I got the pop-up about being in free trial mode. I'm not sure if "registered" in the context of the message above means it's a registered copy of VARA or if it means something else. When I originally purchased VARA I installed it on a different computer, then later moved it to the current one - not sure if that made any difference.

Thanks,

Re: Free trial mode despite registration

Lee;

Did you change your call sign after you registered VARA? If yes, you'll need to pay a $10 fee to update the VARA key to use the new call.

I have found that you have to cut and paste it into the box to make it work!

Hello,

?

My VARA HF application popped up a message saying it was running in free trial mode, and I had to click the button to extend. I purchased a license last year, and the key is entered in the setup. There are no errors associated with the key, i.e. there's nothing indicating the key is not valid. How do I get the application out of free trial mode? I'm on version 4.8.6.

Thanks,

And if the operators are outside the border, good luck getting another country's agencies to chase them down.
