Re: Problem with VARA and Virtual Desktops in Windows 10 and 11
What do you know,
Today mine works too in my Windows 11 Desktop PC. It hasn't worked properly for years with VARA when the same PC was running Windows 10. Maybe I am more carefull today, but even if I do it fast it works now. Maybe or there was an update that fixed this faulty behaviour I was noticing all this time, or it was magic! Hi hi hi!! Well Windows is a finicky O/S. Thanks for reply Wes. 73 de Demetre SV1UY |
Re: Winlink HF (and FT8) don’t send
I have heard a lot of stations having headaches with this.
I've used Signalink first and now Rigblaster external soundcards for many years, with much less grief. A previous posting, still applies: Dell-installed "Waves Audio Services" and "Waves Audio Universal Services" interfere (severely) with VARA Wish you luck with a viable solution. 73 |
Re: Winlink HF (and FT8) don’t send
开云体育I can absolutely understand your frustration. Your Dell could be an issue. On the overhand did you install the driver provided by Yaesu?I still will offer the offer to talk by phone. Using that method was the way I found my solution. We went through every setup and screen.

Greg, I understand your statement. I have probably put in 60 hours trying to get anything digital to work. I too am setting this up for EmComm use, so it is important. The system seems to work receiving, but not sending. The CAT controls work. I honestly think (just because thats what I think, not necessarily know) that the issue is with the Dell computer sound set up. Just because the CAT opens the transmit doesn’t mean the computer is sending the signal to the radio. Anyway, I appreciate everyone who responded. I’ll keep plugging along.

Re: Problem with VARA and Virtual Desktops in Windows 10 and 11
Thanks for the reply Terry,
I have never noticed any problems in Virtual Desktops in both Windows 10 and 11, only with VARA! It seems to me very finicky. Then again Windows is a finicky O/S but really so is LINUX, not sure about MAC OS because I have never used one. 73 de Demetre |
Re: Problem with VARA and Virtual Desktops in Windows 10 and 11
Not sure if it's a bug or not. I have programs I run and in the first desktop word great. But if I open it in the second or third it loses some functions. Like mouse works in the second but not the keyboard or vice versa in window 3. I have the latest updates from Microsoft on windows 10 and so I have learned not to put some programs over in the virtual areas.

Problem with VARA and Virtual Desktops in Windows 10 and 11
Hi all,
I have noticed that iin Windows 10 and 11, f I run VarAC/VARA in Virtual Desktop 1 and I want to switch to an empty Virtual Desktop 2 of higher, then VARA will not let me go to the new Virtual Desktop unless I minimize VARA VARA before attempting to switch to another empty Virtual Desktop. This is a big problem and it was happening in both my Windows 10 Desktops and now it is happening in both my Windows 11 Desktops after upgrading to Windows 11. When I close the VARA sessions and leave VarAC running alone just for a test, I can switch to another empty Virtual Desktop immediately without any problems. I have exactly the same behaviour when I run WINLINK/VARA and also when I run VARA alone without being started by another program. Has anyone ever noticed this behaviour or is it only me? I asked Jose, the VARA developer, and he suggested I ask here in this list, so I am asking, although I don't see how can anyone else can really help if the developer can't. Maybe the language barrier is to blame. Maybe I did not explain myself to Jose in a way hat he could understand. Any ideas please? This only happens when I run VARA as every other program I run in my 2 Desktops, has no problems allowing me to switch to another Virtual Desktop. I have never experienced this with other programs. It seems to me as a Huge VARA BUG! 73 de Demetre SV1UY |
Re: Winlink HF (and FT8) don’t send
开云体育GaryGood questions.
It took me several weeks to get my 991A to actually work. I was totally frustrated. I then quit trying to do what should work but did not. The setup I sent you is what was given to me and it works. My Data- USB worked and then would not work. When using
just USB it works every time (for me). I the focused my efforts on EmComm for RACES and ARES.
So many or maybe most of the 991A settings are still fertile ground to explore.
In my case I worked with a HAM in Alaska over the phone to get this poor Texan working.?
My point is just try it and see if it works for you. I tried many YouTube and other internet options, none of those worked for me.?

Greg, several questions on your settings. Why bother setting menu 29, I am not using the RS232 port? On the Vara settings>radio setup. If I choose USB, then every time the radio tries to transmit, it changes the mode from Data-USB to straight USB. Maybe I’m really missing something here but aren’t we using digital?

Re: Winlink HF (and FT8) don’t send
I did not do a detailed read of all of your settings and the responses.?
The first thing that comes to mind is your ALC settings. Many rigs, and I do not know the 991, do not have an "adjustment setting" for ALC. My Elecraft K3 does not have such a setting but I can monitor the ALC response. Automatic Level Control should never be triggered when using FT-8 or Winlink. If you are able to monitor ALC on the the 991 decrease the audio input to your radio until the ALC just barely flickers, then back it off just a little more. This will maximize your RF output with out triggering ALC. Then use your RF gain to reduce your RF out put. Never run FT-8 or Winlink at full 100% power. Digital modes are full (100%) modulation and are harsh on your final amplifier you will or may over time burn it out. If ALC is being triggered you may never make a connection. Ask me how I know. |
Re: Winlink HF (and FT8) don’t send
?That all looks right too. I usu have drive at around -5, but that is affected by where You have the Windows audio levels at. They cascade from Windows to Vara to the 991 settings. As I am not familiar with the 991, I dont have much more for you. I will say that in the past year or so, there has been a TON of conversation on how to get the 991(A) to play well with Vara. On the Winlink Express site under the Book of Knowledge tab, there are at least two articles on how to get a 991 going.
