Re: RMS relay and RMS trimode
And to answer your original question...
Yes, RMS Relay is the store and forward component and RMS Trimode is the HF scanner (not VHF) for ARDOP, PACTOR and Vara HF. For VHF connections, use RMS Packet which in addition to AX.25 packet, also does Vara FM. Both RMS Trimode and RMS Packet work with RMS Relay. Support for these applications is on Google Groups:

Re: RMS relay and RMS trimode
Hi Wayne, I have been using both VARA HF, VARA VHF, VARAC,and Winlink on my system setup,? The only caution I can share is when WIN11 does a update your?com ports can really screw up all your settings. When I participated in the 12 Dec EDM member exercises I paused my updates. However after I turned them back on and all my ports are trash ?and? now I am back to establishing all my ports. I'll send you a direct email if you want to check out all the RMS stations available, including the MESH ones.73 de Greg |
Re: RMS relay and RMS trimode
开云体育Wayne to answeryour question.?You will connect to trimode with vara. Depending on the setup at sysop you have few options If sysop is jyst a radio only store and forward If sysop os part of yhe hybrid system then you mail send or received using vara willbe collected / forwarded via the hybrid portion of the sysopsystem via www or via radio Yes trimode connects to hf and also vhf woth different software packaged using vara as a digital mode. It also support pactor 1-4, ardop and robust packet.? Hope this answers your question Greetings from the Namib Pieter Jacobs +264811277615 NETS NTNSS De v51pj On 16 Dec 2024, at 13:30, Wayne Francis via groups.io <w3hiz@...> wrote:

Do I understand that RMS relay is the storing and forwarding of traffic,
and RMS trimode is the scanner to pick up traffic?
Do they work together?
Thanks, from a newbie.

Re: Channel Busy ver 4.87
You are a couple of versions behind on VARA HF, may I suggest you update that first.
I use my Flex daily with VARA HF with no issues, can you tell me where your VU meter on VARA sits? I set my levels for that to be right at 12 o'clock. -- Gary Mitchelson NC3Z/4 Pamlico County, NC FM15 NC AHIMT COML SHARES NCS997 |
VARA wouldn't work without update?
HI All,
?
I was out in the boonies yesterday and went to send a message using VARA and Winlink. Wasn't crucial but it was to let the family know where I was and what was going on as weather had prevented sticking to the plan. So not critical but I did want to get a message through.
?
When I tried I could hit a receiving stations but I would not pick up their replies although I could hear them. I got at least one email acknowledging a contact with a new station so I know I was hitting them. Got back home and hooked up to the shack radio and expereinced the same thing. Updated VARA HF modem and it works now.
?
My question is, does this happen often? New updates break the old version? Yes, I can try to remember to update before a trip, even though needing to do that sucks. But what if a disaster happens and I haven't updated? Is this a rare thing or do updates often break VARA?
?
On the duh side I should have tried ARDOP or whatever else there is. That was a major stupid on my part. |
Channel Busy ver 4.87
I am running a Flex 6400 with the most recent version of SmartSDR (3.8.19 etc). I am using Vara HF 4.87 and Winlink Express 1.7.20. My computer runs windows 11.
?
Recently both VARA and Smart SDR were upgraded. At some point after that Vara would not play nice with the Flex. I have gone through all the prior postings, adjusted my filters, set up CAT and PTT on Slice B (the only thing I am using at present on Slice B), and made the appropriate changes in the setup in Winlink. WSJTX runs just fine and have not had a problem with it. I get the red channel busy box when opening a session and will not connect for auto-connect but will try for individual stations, although showing the channel busy block.?
?
I have tried everything I can think of, any suggestions?
?

Re: K4HVF with a Gateway usage question
Greg
?
This morning I connected to KD0SFY in Colorado Springs on 40 meters... not exactly NW USA but not in the expected coverage area of my inverted V. I also connected once to a 20 meter gateway in Australia from Texas. Elevated dipoles and Yagis would probably work better at distant stations especially at night on 40 meters, so its not that hard to believe that activity on the opposite side of the country would affect usage on the other side.
?
The WDT has the right to moderate usage of the Winlink system, and the messages I was referring to were posted on the Winlink forum after the fact.

Re: K4HVF with a Gateway usage question
Jeff I was able to connect to your gateway this morning just fine. Maybe it is propagation or maybe less people are using your gateway. When I send Winlink checkins I sometimes try alternate gateways instead of using the same ones repeatedly.

vara hf sending issue

I was able to connect to a gateway using ?vara hf. ?I could not get my Winlink Outbox email to go out, ?The vara dashboard was all in the green. the S/N was at the bottom of the green area. MY radio(Ftdx10) was transmitting just fine, but the email stayed in the Outbox. ?Any ideas what is causing this issue?

Re: K4HVF with a Gateway usage question
John,
?
I have several issues with WDT making those kinds of blanket statements.
?
We should use our heads, use common sense, and be considerate of others. I don't need WDT to tell me that.

I think you misunderstood Yigal's statement. During times of disaster like during a hurricane making landfall or during recovery efforts, its advisable to not practice making connections to Winlink gateways while other people in disaster zones might need to use them. The Winlink Development Team has made it clear that we should refrain from sending low priority messages, i.e. Winlink check ins, test messages, etc. until regular communications have been restored in the affected areas.

Re: K4HVF with a Gateway usage question
Yigal,
?
Who is making calls NOT to use Winlink, except for emergency communications!?!? It should be used enough on "blue sky" days so that it is simply routine when needed in an emergency. I'm thankful that firefighters don't only train during live structure fires!
?
Practice, practice, practice so you'll be proficient when needed... and know from day to day that your station and the RMS stations you hope to use are functioning properly.
