Re: VARA FM PTT CAT for Kenwood HT-74/75

I'm guessing that the radio needs to be connected via USB?? It would be awesome to be able to make use of the bluetooth connection via the Kiss96 port.? Not even sure if that is possible, but I don't see why it shouldn't work.? When selecting Packet in winlink you can choose KISS and the port.

Re: Can't connect consistently using VARA FM And IC-705 - weak signal detected

However, if you just open the vara fm window you can ping or calibrate your signal with another station. That helps in assisting your level settings, be it in the auto calibration mode or manual ping to set the ALC levels of some of the external sound card interfaces.

If you are having issues with the ic705 in vara fm you might want to join one of the user groups or read through the details of interfacing you ic705 for vara fm.

I have a 705 and am able to connect via vara fm. This may be a dumb question but are you entering the frequency of the gateway on the 705 because VARA FM won't do it as it does on HF. AND are you in FM mode on the 705?

The only difference I have is the Icom Remote Utility and 40 ft external?antenna.
I run my IC 705 on the ground floor and a Yagi pointing?southwest.

I'm able to connect to VHF gateways about 60 km out between Vancouver Island and the Mainland of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Subject: [VARA-MODEM] Walker County ARES needs help with VARA FM on the 991-a

?

Walker County ARES is trying to setup VARA FM to be able to use Winlink on their 991-a radios. I have been looking online for help and checking videos, I do not own a 991-A, out but there is plenty on HF but not FM.

Do you need a different cable from the USB cable that is used for VARA HF?? What mode do you select? This is a couple of the questions that I have.

They are hosting two Boy Scout Troops in a couple of weeks and would love to be able to show them how this works.

Thank you for any help.

Set your FM Mike from mike to rear in the menu. Not sure what number it is. I have a 991A set to run VARAHF and FM.
