Re: VARA on FM?
Jerome Kutche
Windows...
I have 2 instances of VARA Hf 2 Instances of ARDOP 2 Instances of WINMOR on a Windows 7 Laptop controlling two HF rigs via 2 Signalinks. All controlled by my Linbpq PC thru the Ethernet link.. I think the only way to use a Pi running say PiLINBPQ would be with a networked windows PC running VARA FM.. But You may ask the Author??? |
Re: VARA on FM?
It looks like the VARA FM will work at 9600 but only on designed-for-9600 radios??? The reason I bring this up is that one of the things I think VARA does well is compensate for what happens between the VARA modems.? I would expect it to do better than many of the old-school FM packet modems on a not-made-for-9600 radio.? I wonder if anybody has ever tried this.??? ?? Re: VARA on FM?
Thanks!?? Does this require a MSWindows machine??? Or can it run on some embedded platform??? I suspect it could run on an Intel NUC.? But is it supported on Raspberry PI? Can a single computer support simultaneous transactions on 2 or more transceivers? What kind of bytes per second could one expect using Winlink over FM with VARA FM??? What software must the fixed-station computer be running?? Does this work with G8BPQ's RMS server?? Thanks again. ?? Tadd - KA2DEW On May 3, 2019 at 12:56 PM, Jerome Kutche <n9lya@...> wrote:

Is there a way to use VARA on FM, hopefully on surplus land-mobile vhf FM transceivers, to achieve better than 2400baud?? Or maybe better noisy-link performance than Bell 202 or whatever the MFJ-2400 modem is??? ??? Tadd |
Command line level adjustment?
Has anybody discovered the secret command line level adjustment syntax? Perhaps there is none? A single setting is not sufficient since the level changes depending on frequency, in my case. I can't locate a way to send drive level information to the modem from the bpq forwarding script or from the terminal and having to access the setup drive level is not very convenient on the run. Why is it so hard to document this? If there isn't a way to do it, why not say so? The config file contains a Drive Level setting.?

Yes, I drop outbound packets to 79.0.0.0/8 (255.0.0.0). Port 8002 is the

distant port but that's a moot point if you block the net-block. I also block inbound packets from the same net-block just for good measure. Protocol is TCP. The specific IP is 79.157.29.228. It's probably harmless but I just don't like the idea of an unannounced back door on my stuff so I block it. I use TCPView from www.sysinternals.com to monitor port activity. It's a handy tool. 73 - Dave - W7EES On 2/15/19 3:02 AM, Jerome Kutche wrote:
