The Alinco has a special button for digital modes. Make sure you turn this on.
Gary;
?
Some Alinco transceivers have provisions for data communications, with some form of dedicated 'DATA' connection apart from the mic and/or external speaker jacks. The key advantages of such a dedicated 'DATA' jack is that they allow the connection of an external TNC (Terminal Node Controller) or other external USB soundcard rig-interface device without having to disconnect the microphone, or disabling the internal speaker. And, the receive signal level through the 'DATA' connector is constant... it doesn't vary with changes to the volume control.
?
The Alinco models that do provide a "DATA' jack (or at least support that functionality on the circuit board) typically provide a button or menu option for configuring the radio for 1200bps Packet or for 9600bps Packet through the 'DATA' connector.
?
The Alinco DR-185 doesn't have any such provisions for data communications. It doesn't have a 'DATA' connector, and it doesn't have any button or menu option related to data communications.?
?
The only way to use a TNC (Terminal Node Controller) or other external USB soundcard rig-interface device with the DR-185 is by connecting the device to the microphone jack, and the external speaker jack on the back of the radio.?
