Lake Anna State Park

 

Hi all!

I'm looking to activate the Lake Anna State Park next. ?All I'm waiting for is a nice sunny mid week not-freezing day! ?Yeah, I know, I could be waiting awhile.

I see on the park's map that there is a picnic area at Ware's Cove which might be very pleasant. ?Because it is a state park a parking access fee is charged. ?Annual senior passports for all parks are $45 for up to 4 people in vehicle. ?I'll be purchasing mine soon.

I think I'm going to "literally"?follow your?activation journey..... literally! ?. Your POTA reports with pictures?are helping me to choose future?locations. ?Rapidan is enticing too. ?Maybe next.

Very nice park.? Not too far from our place in Louisa.? In the summer, it gets packed VERY quick.? During one visit last summer, the park was nearly at capacity and officials won't hesitate to turn people around.? This is one of the busier parks.? I once had an interaction with a park ranger during a POTA activation but they usually just waive (when I'm at the back of my truck).? ?When it's busy and I'm out by the lake with my mast and EFHW, there are so many people around, I rarely if every have a ranger walk past.? ?Lots of Hispanic families grilling.? I love seeing the families together and even better all the BBQ grills (smells great).? BTW:? I always love pairing SOTA and POTA with food.? These visitors are typically traveling from Northern VA and Maryland.? Believe it or not, this park is the closest recreational / public swimming lake to the DMV area (according to park officials).? It's not nearly as busy in the winter and early spring.? I call Powhatan state park my "home park" because it's small enough to where you get to know many of the rangers.??
 

Paula Lake Anna SP is a nice park to activate.? I have done so from the beach over flow parking lot.? A ranger stopped by and we chatted he said enjoy.? If you visit state parks frequently like I do the annual pass pays for itself after 17 visits.
