Introductions

 

I was first licensed in the early 70s, fell away from the hobby in college, then came back to it a little over a decade ago.? My wife and I just downsized and moved to an apartment, so I'm reinventing myself as a portable operator.? I've done three POTA activations and I'm hooked.? My current kit is an Icom IC-705, Chameleon Lightweight End-Fed 80-10m, and a ToughBook.? I activate and hunt using digital modes: FT8, JS8CALL, PSK32, etc.

I have only been in this hobby since May 2022 and have found it curiously addictive.? I now hold an Amateur Extra license as well as serve as a VE. I have been having a lot of fun experimenting with simple antennas as well as the public service side of the hobby.??

I found POTA to be a great way as a beginner to get on the air to get over "mic freight" as a hunter.? This past summer I activated several parks in Canada, some for the first time ever for the POTA program? which was a lot of fun.? I enjoy getting outside and planning?and executing the activation and it allows me to see areas that I would not have experienced? otherwise.? To date I only do SSB and FM phone, but starting to learn CW and someday you may hear me on that format as well.?

Hello all,

I got into the hobby in 2019.? Got my General ticket the same year.? It took a long time to rack up contacts, didn't know who to contact or how.? By March of 2022 I only had 600 contacts in my logbook.? I found out about POTA and got some gear together and found a handful of Parks around the Virginia Beach area.? A year later I had over 10,000 contacts added to my logbook and a dozen parks with KILO awards.? The KILO I am most proud of is False Cape State Park (K-1298) in SE Virginia. It is a 5-mile hike just to get to it.? Currently spreading my wings and hitting Virginia Parks I have not activated yet.? Just activated most of the parks on the Eastern Shore, I am missing just two there.

This is Jerry AC4BT. I've been a Ham since 1990. I am very active on POTA and HF.?

I seem to be addicted to CW, POTA and handling pile-ups! Just started doing POTA activations April 2023. Most of my activations are QRP using a KX2 and Chelegance MC-750 portable Vertical. I also use a Hustler HF mobile antenna and mag mount for when it's cold or bad weather. I have resonators for 10-40 meters.

Glad to join the group and looking forward to meeting everyone.
