Re: Do You Have Famous Ancestors?
Hi ?My 40 plus years of research and my brother, David's, Harris Group 8 Y-DNA prove and confirm that we trace back to our Captain Thomas Harris who came to Jamestown in 1611. ?Our Harris line traces back through our William Harris/Judith Hudson, who re-married Judith Wilborn and his son, our William Harris/Frances Goode, who re-married Ann, and who both lived and died in the Blue Stone Creek area of Lunenburg Co, Va that later became Mecklenburg Co, Va. Records prove that on the same day of March 24, 1725 that our William Harris/Mary obtained a patent for 400 acres on the South side of Cubb Creek in Hanover, now Louisa Co, Va, his son, our William Harris/Judith Hudson obtained a patent for 400 acres on both sides of Harris Fork of Cubb Creek in also Hanover, now Louisa Co, Va. Our William Harris/Mary and his brother, Edward Harris/Mary/Elizabeth were the sons of our Major William Harris/2nd wife, Alice, who died in 1678 in Henrico Co, Va and our Major William Harris was the son of our Captain Thomas Harris/Audrey Hoare who had come to Jamestown in 1611. Some time before 1743, our William Harris/Judith Hudson sold 206 acres of his patent land on both sides of Harris Fork of Cubb Creek to John Blalock. ?In 1743, having moved to Brunswick Co, Va and to the area that later became Halifax Co, Va and on almost the same day of August of 1743 that our William Harris/Judith Hudson sold 62 acres on both sides of Harris Fork of Cubb Creek to his brother, Stephen Harris, his brother, Edward Harris/Ann, sold 50 acres on the South side of Cubb Creek to another William Harris, who by 1757 was in Goochland Co, VA. Records show that the William Harris of Goochland Co, Va was the son of Edward Harris/Mary, brother of our William Harris/Mary, again, sons of our Major William Harris/Alice. By 1751, Edward Harris/Ann had followed his brother, our William Harris/Judith Hudson, on into Lunenburg Co, Va and he purchased land in the area of Lunenburg that later became Charlotte Co, Va. By 1774, our William Harris/Frances Rodgers, son of our William Harris/Frances Goode, had moved to Laurens Co, SC and later by 1790/1800, three of Edward Harris'/Ann sons, Stephen Harris; Edward Harris, Jr; and Braddock Harris had also moved to Laurens Co, SC. Having now proved and confirmed our entire Harris line and family, my brother, David, and myself are now proud and honored to be recent members of The Jamestowne Society through our Captain Thomas Harris. Sincerely yours, Belva Harris Cauthen

I have seen an account that my 4th great grandmother, Mary Turman, was a cousin to George W. but I have not seen an actual accounting of it. I will claim that distinction anyway.

Do You Have Famous Ancestors?
Do you have famous ancestors? Diane and I would love for you to share your
information with this group. To make this easier we are suspending the rule of only discussing members of your direct line. If you are a Smith but your famous ancestor is a Jones that is OK for this discussion. We want you to feel free to join in and let us all enjoy some interesting stories. Who will be first? Crafton/Poole - Searching for information on descendants of siblings Edward P. Poole, Nora E. Poole, Sarah Elizabeth Poole and Carrie Noella Poole
...children of Thomas Edward Poole and Martha Newton Crafton, born between 1875 and 1883.?
I have nothing on Edward other than b. Jan 1875.? I have and Nora's line w/Felix Watts to a male Watts, b 1905 in Crewe, but nothing other than that. I have Sarah's line w/Archer Dunnavant to Hahn in Ohio, but nothing past 1930s. I also have Carrie Noella being born abt 1883 and also marrying Felix Watts after Nora's death in 1905, but no children. Any help with more descendants would be appreciated.? Perhaps connecting with/learning of living (or more recent) descendants could help bring more info on those passed.? Thanks! |
Re: Welcome to the VA-Lunenburg Group
Thanks for setting this up.? I hadn't checked my Rootsweb emails in quite some time and this morning discovered that they are no more, so I appreciate you doing this.? I just posted a new topic, but don't yet see it.? Is there a review done before it becomes published?

Lunenburg Wilsons
Dear groupers, I'm searching for information about a family of Wilsons who lived in Lunenburg County, VA in the early to mid-1700s. They were closely associated with knots of Separatist Baptists in the area of the Meherrin River, Reedy Creek and Bluestone (which I gather later ended up in Mecklenburg County). There was a meeting house designated as Wilson's meeting house at one point. The Wilson family I'm related to left Lunenburg County somewhere between 1760 and 1770 to escape religious persecution and would have sold their lands then--most likely to other Separatists. Those land sales are what I'm focused on right now. The given names I'm most interested in are John, William, Thomas, and maybe Solomon. If possible I would like the seller's name, the buyer's name, location of the land and when sold. Who has access to abstracts of that period? Could he or she do a lookup? Gratefully, Margaret Wilson Arthur (seeking Wilsons, Waynes, Legettes, Parrotts, Byrds, Garners and Jordans) |

Do you have a login at groups.io? If so you can easily go to the VA-Lunenburg page, click on your user name at upper right and choose "Account" where you will see a way to change your email address to the new one. Unfortunately, I am unable to add addresses with the free account. That is one thing about Rootsweb I miss. Best wishes, Jim "Pops" Jackson -----Original Message-----

Welcome to the VA-Lunenburg Group
Jim Jackson
Welcome to 开云体育, our new home for genealogical discussions. This is an
exciting time with a very impressive website and the opportunity to rekindle our communications and, perhaps, revive research that has been set aside for a time. Diane and I want to encourage you to make us of this group with your brick walls, successes, questions and whatever answers you may have for others' queries. To begin with, introductions are encouraged, including some history about yourself etc. If we can feel like a "family" we might get more out of being here. We definitely do not want to make this such a strict environment that you are discouraged from entering or starting discussions. We want you to enjoy being a part of this group and be glad you joined in the first place. If you have other group connections where you may spread the word about us that will be great as well. Looking forward to hearing from you all, Jim "Pops" Jackson and Diane Sowden |
