Yoctosun Magnifier
I just purchased a new Yoctosun Magnifier. It has interchangeable lenses and I wear them like glasses. Light weight and easy to wear.

They also feature rechargeable LED lights that illuminate what I am working on.
Price was very reasonable.

开云体育I purchased this from eBay and I am very satisfied with it. I don't like the ones with a light on the forehead. They are too bright for me.

There are no end of choices.? Some are just regular glasses with magnifying lenses you can get in different strengths. However, the Optivisor at the eBay link has been a top choice for a very long time. Here is their first ad in the January 1964 Model Railroader magazine.? A little bit different headband design then.? You saw all kinds of modelers using these things. In the January 1980 issue there is this interesting mention which has a manufacturer other than Donegan.? Perhaps Donegan is a distributor, not the manufacturer, as Donegan still exists today selling them.? It is now the different headband style. This site says the Optivisor is the most popular choice but also shows some others. I once asked my dentist what he used as it had magnifying and a VERY strong light and was a rather technical looking apparatus.? He didn't say the brand.? But said it cost about $3,000.? No thanks. 开云体育I bought the same from a UK supplier on eBay. ?It seems ok to me, and I wondered what you get for paying five times more for a real Optivizor. ?This model feels cheap, but it seems to do its job. ? The four lens pairs are glass, maybe cast rather than ground. ?The strap adjustment is crude but ok, the headband is a HDPE type plastic. ?There are crude plastic pins to hold the lenses in place rather poorly, so I used a scrap of wire instead when a pin soon became too worn to stay in. ?On 26 Feb 2025, at 18:17, Andrei via groups.io <calciu1@...> wrote:

Even the Donegan optivisor can be bought cheap.?
They sell two versions: one for hobbyists that costs under 50 bucks and one for "medical" that clocks in at $400.
I could not see any difference between the two and bought the less expensive one.?

I am in the US.? Here is why Trump cannot make America great.? Optivisor is US.? Yoctosun is China.? Many will buy the Chinese product because it is cheap.? I will spend more for USA workers.? Our politicians here don't really care.? All is just talk.

Hello, John
The Optivisor and the Yoctosun magnifier are two distinctly different products. While they perform similar functions, Where they are made is not relevant to this discussion.
I don’t care where they sourced.
Let’s not politicize this topic.

I agree, the Optivisor and the Yoctosun are different beasts. The Yoctosun is unbalanced in my opinion, the Optivosor locates well on the head. James On Wed, 26 Feb 2025, 22:15 OldToolmaker via , <old_toolmaker=[email protected]> wrote:

I was watching a BBC art program, and found someone at the Courthauld Institute in London examining a large painting.? Note the Optivisor.? If good enough for them, then should be OK for us.
