T rest and gravers?

In the files somewhere there is a copy of American Edestal's price list
circa mid 60s complete with B & W pics of most of the accessories. If you are in
a hurry to try your hand at turning on the Uni someone once said that they
just chucked up a 6" peice of 3/8" round stock in the milling vice attached
to the crossfeed and maneuvered the entire jig to work as a very servicable
Tee rest. Smaller sized wood turning tools can be purchased from Micromark as
well as Woodcraft Supply amongst others. Good luck.

Does anyone have any plans for a T rest to use with gravers? Was this
ever offered as an option for the Unimat?

Thanks
Tom

Sure, it was, two kinds, one long & one short. Expensive to buy on eBay, but easily made.

Do you know of any plans or pictures of them? I need to make some
different types of things for which this would be the ticket. Any
tips on the designing of a set?
Thanks
Tom

Try checking out the Sherline web site. They have a watchmakers tool
rest and have info on where you can get all the info you want on gravers.

Hi Tom and all

If you don't have the vise, the boring bar,
a length of round stock or square key stock
in the tool holder works as well. Not quite
as adjustable, but works in a pinch.

A watchmakers flip-over t-rest was offered for a short while just before the demise of the
Unimat 3.
I have made one for myself - just a piece of 1/8" mild steel plate that bolts onto the cross
slide that has a collar with a grub screw to take watchmaker sized t-rests.
For gravers I use 1/8" toolbits, like this:

It is easily one of my most used accessories on the Unimat.

Btw - has anyone ever seen one of the Hemingway kits for a sensitive drilling tailstock for
the Unimat 3? I would dearly love to have one.

Morning Tom: I made my own rest for gravers from stock scraps on hand-if you need gravers, go to GRS Tools website where you will find anything you might ever need. Good Luck_Edward (Engraverdude)

Come to think of it, I have a flip-over watchmaker's T-rest that could be adapted to the Uni DB/SLs or to the #3/4, which I would be glad to sell for $10 + postage. Email off list.
