Rotary table?

Is anyone out there using a rotary table with their Uni's? if so what works?

I have a 3" rotary table, and it's monsterously large, to the point of nearly useless. I'd be interested in one that fits the Unimat DB/SL machines, but the factory option is way out of my price range these days.?

When I got mine, it was the absolute cheapest rotary table I could find. I figured I could use it to help me build one larger. Should also be possible to build one smaller...? Though it looks like I may be running out of time.?

This month, Sherline has their rotary table on sale 20% off, which is still expensive at $269.83.? I have one and am satisfied.? Now if you don't care about made in the US, or you just need cheap, you can buy any Chinese or Indian one on Ebay.

the unimat 3 indexing head can also be used flat on its back as a sort of rotary table depending on what you want to use it for, this will accept a chuck on the threaded nose- maybe the indexer for the sl can do the same.

On my DB200 the center height is about 12.3mm.? I think I’d have to add a riser block to the spindle to even use something as small as these on axis with the lathe spindle.? With the milling head not a problem.? I think the 44mm one would probably work and they aren’t that expensive.

I checked Ebay, and you can buy an Indian 2 3/4" rotary table for as little as $63 including shipping.? Is a cheap junk good enough for your use?

Further to my earlier message,? the Seller of the $62.69 rotary, Toolswholesale, sent me an Email that they want a "best offer".? So here is a big chance for someone.

Thanks for replying. I was hoping to find someone who had a reasonably priced one that they would recommend... but based on that price I might try it and let everyone know what to expect.

Was that the one that has the option of a 2 slot or 4 slot base?? If the quality is good, it might useful to have in order to make a custom base that's more Unimat (or other machine) friendly.

Look up the price and Seller and you will see.
If you are thinking good quality, you have to spend money, like Sherline.
The Ebay one is very likely crappy.

I had both good and bad luck with ebay. The good news if it is crap, you return it and get a full refund, including shipping.

I'm not interested, and if I bought one anywhere, I'd expect it to be a "project"; it's just that the removable base does present an interesting option.

Heres a thought.
many years ago i made 2 rotary tables of sorts.
One manually rotated by hand for my sherline it had a thread to hold a drill chuck. It had a 2"(50mm) table. Rotated by a tommy bar in the side holes.
Two an old 1980's Ford windscreen wiper motor machined and modified to make a 2.75 "(70mm) rotary table. The wiper motor is the dark grey part.
?The ratio of the worm drive was dreadful but it functioned for me then.?

My suggestion is to machine your own from scratch. That is what I intend to do. I will design it in CAD then build.

I use a Sherline.? For me, to get materials and manufacture a rotary, it would be so much time that I may as well buy one.
In doing a Google search for small rotaries, I found mostly the cheap Indian one.
Now we complain that these rotary tables are just too big.
So I found this, a Velmex USA 1.65" model, which might be an ideal size for some of our work.
It is $990 for the base model.

I just wonder if it would be possible to 3d print a rotary table for the unimat?
and how well one would work?

Hi:

I have one like this from Harbor Freight for $20:

It looks fine, I think I used it once. This one on Amazon is $60.

This one looks a bit more versatile at $40:

The Velmex models are more for Laboratory / Optics work, not machining.

Carl.

Amazon lists the basic 2-3/4" table for $44.95, but with $29.89 shipping and delivery June 5-13.
I could not find this rotary table on Harbor Freight.
