Projects Built on the Unimat?
Would anyone care to share what they have built on the Unimat?

开云体育I'm a relative noob, so my contribution will be small. I'm in the process of building a new micro shop where I will permanently setup the Unimats, and then I hope to make some more interesting stuff. So far, I've only machined some small bushings out of delrin for a steerable tailwheel swivel for a small foam r/c plane. Nothing sexy, but it is working great!

开云体育Great job. ?The important thing is that you are actually using your machine and learning in the process.

One of the most useful parts for me to use on my SL are a set of fittings for a collet chuck with M12 x 1 fitting to hold small screws to shorten them and make dome headed screws for my clock repair work.
I first made a split collet with a 15 deg taper each end to hold 3mm rod, I then went onto a 3 piece with a mid and nose section that I can change size to suit bolt head and bore from 2mm through to 6mm poke the screw through then tighten the nut to hold, also a set of mid sections threaded out to screw the bolt into so as not to damage threads whilst I am doming the heads and slitting, I am currently making a set of collet mid and ends to hold 1mm and less screws. For the tail stock end I am drawing up to make a sliding tap and die holder for the 2mm and less. I am having as much fun making these parts as I am doing the clockwork. Phill? |
开云体育Hi Gang: Here is a gear from a HO locomotive. The shaft splits the plastic, so I turned and press on collars to close the split: Good luck, Carl. |
I used the Unimat to build a Quick Change tool post for it.?/g/Unimat/photo/195708/2246513?p=Created%2C%2C%2C20%2C2%2C0%2C0

Mike,
What are those white gears seen in the background of your picture used for? Just curious! Dick -- http://www.homemadetools.net/ ?SMALL TURRET TOOL POST PLANS? ?LARGE TURRET TOOL POST PLANS ?MINI- ?SMALL QC TOOL POST PLANS? ?QUICK CHANGE LATHE TURRET ?MINI LATHE COMPOUND PIVOT MODIFICATION |
Paul,
I enjoyed looking at your website! Very interesting! Dick -- http://www.homemadetools.net/ ?SMALL TURRET TOOL POST PLANS? ?LARGE TURRET TOOL POST PLANS ?MINI- ?SMALL QC TOOL POST PLANS? ?QUICK CHANGE LATHE TURRET ?MINI LATHE COMPOUND PIVOT MODIFICATION |
Tom, the outside surfaces were surface ground square prior to cutting the dovetails to facilitate accuracy of the finished tool. The dovetail cutter itself was turned in the Unimat and finish ground using my Quorn cutter grinder.Dick -- http://www.homemadetools.net/ ?SMALL TURRET TOOL POST PLANS? ?LARGE TURRET TOOL POST PLANS ?MINI- ?SMALL QC TOOL POST PLANS? ?QUICK CHANGE LATHE TURRET ?MINI LATHE COMPOUND PIVOT MODIFICATION |
开云体育Just fantastic work. ?Beautiful to just look at. ?I had to make a similar dovetail for a tool holder I needed for my Maximat but I used a shaper that I own. ?Don’t see those around shops much any more.

Very nice work, Mike
Thank you for the information! -- http://www.homemadetools.net/ ?SMALL TURRET TOOL POST PLANS? ?LARGE TURRET TOOL POST PLANS ?MINI- ?SMALL QC TOOL POST PLANS? ?QUICK CHANGE LATHE TURRET ?MINI LATHE COMPOUND PIVOT MODIFICATION |
Paul,
When you turn model railway wheel do you use a profile form cutter? If so, do you grind your own lathe tools?
