How many Unimats is too many?

Kevin Groenke @ PersonMakeObject

I got lucky on an underpriced sl today. Pretty well equipped and optioned. This will be my third for occasional light production and hobby work. Maybe time to consider a cnc retrofit??

The answer is: one more than you already have, unless you find a great deal on another one!??

This question comes up from time to time in relation to oscilloscopes on the Tektronix group. I'm not even sure how many I have (about 70), but I'll still grab a free one, or a great deal on one I know I can sell.

You lucky so-and-so, you! ;) Good setup there, and lots of neat goodies!

You should be well-equipped to have a bunch of fun with that!

I currently have 9 lathes. Though not all Unimats. ??

Hi Ken,

Congratulations on your new Unimat !

My favorite comment regarding how many you need is "one more than you have ..."? ;-)

I've posted a few times on this site about the CNC retrofit I installed on my Son's SL. I bought a kit from Scott at ZYLtech Engineering in Texas. It's been a while but I believe the kit and miscellaneous parts and materials were less than $100.00 at the?time.

His second SL is set up like a wood lathe?

I have five lathes, only two are Unimats. Also four milling machine. Though two of those are Unimats. And three of my machines can be a lathe, mill, or drill press, though only two of them are Unimats. Had 6 drill presses, until yesterday. Gave the 8" Central Machinery to my neighbor. And again, only two are Unimats. :) Versatile machines!? :)

Glad to see I'm not the only one with the small lathe affliction. No Unimat (yet), but I think I'm at 9 lathes now ranging from a Sherline up to an 11" Logan.?

Wow, I feel inadequate now, I only have 4 lathes! (Unimat, Logan, Clausing & a wood lathe). Do parts for a Schaublin count?

Only if you have a whole lathe's worth of parts! ;)?

Atlas TH42 (working!!!) South Bend heavy 10L (restoration project in multiple piles) Smithy CB-1220XL 3-in-1 (same as SB) DB200 Unimat (more or less complete in box) SL-1000 (in pieces awaiting reassembly)?
