DB/SL Dividing Attachment

I have the original DBSL dividing attachment with 3 dividing wheels or gears. There is no good way of knowing what space or notch I am in as I can¡¯t see the notch. I think this makes it very hard to know where I am. This is a short coming of this dividing system. I have considered making a stand alone dividing head.
Has anyone in this group had a similars experience with this system? If so I would appreciate it if you could share how you work around this short coming.
Thanks
Dick

Hi Dick:

Perhaps you could add a protractor between the chuck and the indexer. Then if you know the angle you are shooting for you will know you are close to right.

Carl.

They also had a 24 tooth wheel, so they had 4 different wheel.

I have a dividing head inherited from my late machinist friend, it uses gears to index the head, I have found it easy to make new gears on a 3d printer, I can make plates with just the number of detents that I need for a job, so if I need 3 spaces, then I just print a new 'gear' of the same diameter, with just the 3 detents, the gears print out fairly quickly so I build up new indexes every time I need one.

Here's the one I have, it just uses a v pointer into the gear, and has a chuck on the other end of the shaft.

So you never built the tool whose plans you posted four years ago? Where did those drawings come from? The writeup is pretty good, I think.

Tim,
I don¡¯t recall posting plans four years ago.
