Freeze spray is used in other industrial applications also, I just don't know exactly where.. . Google "electronic freeze spray" you will get many hits. Also, as stated, canned air turned upside down will freeze things (but not as effectively as that is not what it is designed to do). |
Re: Power winder worm gear
I understand now what is wanted. This part should be able to be produced on the Unimat if a threading attachment is available and a suitable thread master. There are other ways to accomplish this also, however, the desire to pursue this must be present before one begins as this would not be a quick project, but it would be a rewarding one.

Re: Scarce and costly bits and pieces for the Unimat DB & SL
Can you please identify "Quick Freeze".? A google search for "quick freeze can" may not be providing the right product.? I need to be able to buy online or at the local auto store or hardware.? And it is not in Home Depot or True Value.
Thank you. |
Re: Scarce and costly bits and pieces for the Unimat DB & SL
Looks like it went to me & the group, and that's fine, as it looks like a good trick! I was at class when it happened so didn't have access to any of my spray chemicals. Don't have any quick freeze, but do have several other things that might work. If I'd thought about it. :) Bill in OKC William R. Meyers, MSgt, USAF(Ret.) Aphorisms to live by: SEMPER GUMBY! Re: Scarce and costly bits and pieces for the Unimat DB & SL
been looking at milling beds myself as a way to up what I can do and yours looks a hella lot stronger then what I am looking at grabbing for like $35 after shipping, and I dont really have the $90 something? an OG one would be.
kinda wish I knew someone close by with a metal mill and that knew how to use it, saw a video of someone making driving teeth for their lathe and it was just like "that would be so use full for the unitmat"? |
Re: Scarce and costly bits and pieces for the Unimat DB & SL
开云体育Hello
Bill: I couldn't agree more. I use my tools to get the job done. If I find something that works I use it. And it doesn't need to be original Unimat. I even have a half interest in a Dekel milling machine, although I doubt I'll ever use it. Just the thought of own it is enough. Carl.

Re: Scarce and costly bits and pieces for the Unimat DB & SL
Carl, some folks collect stuff without actually using it, some use it for some things and not others. I have an HF mini-mill that I bought from a former tool and die maker, and he'd about worn it out using it for woodworking, but didn't do metal working on it. One of these days, I'll fix it, and use it to make other stuff I want. It's why I got the R-8 collet set. It will probably need new gibs, and might need scraping or re-machining of the dovetails & ways, but it will be cheaper than buying one new. I enjoy figuring out how to do stuff with the limited resources I have, and also enjoy reducing those limitations. I can't see anything wrong with just doing what you want with your machines, even if that is just sitting there looking at them now and then.? Bill in OKC William R. Meyers, MSgt, USAF(Ret.) Re: Scarce and costly bits and pieces for the Unimat DB & SL
The answer is really simple for me. And for me only! I'm a cheap bastrich! I learned to do machining so I could make all the expensive stuff I wanted without having to spend as much money on it. Partially, because I find I need to spend a lot of money on stuff I cannot do myself. Partially because I just enjoy doing it! This in no way means your preference to buy what you want is invalid, just that it is not for me!? One factor in this is that I wound up retiring long before I intended. I actually did not intend to retire at all, but to work until I dropped. Covid-19 put paid to that, and I lost my great job the week after I got my largest pay raise ever because Covid-19 just nearly killed our business. And I had medical issues that were influencing me to quit my great job because they'd added a not-so-great job to it, and doing that job caused me quite a bit of physical pain.? Another factor that I've alluded to above is that I enjoy making things, and I've finally learned most of the skills necessary to do this. I've been attending this class for over 7 years now, a couple of nights a week, learning new techniques, and make the odd bits and pieces of stuff I wanted to make for one thing and another. Much of it tooling or parts for the machines I've been spending my money on instead of buying the parts for them. I get the joy of making something, and another bit of joy from putting the parts to use. Works very well for me. YMMV, of course. Ain't nothing wrong with that, either.? There are a bunch of folks here that lean your way, or mine, or some other way, and that's fine too! Bill in OKC William R. Meyers, MSgt, USAF(Ret.) Aphorisms to live by: SEMPER GUMBY!
