Re: Mert Baker's passing
Vicky, I first "met" your dad online in the 7x10mini-lathe group, and it's successors. Followed him on the Unimat group and some others, as well. I'd been doing hobby metalworking of one sort an another for 35 years before I finally laid hands on a 7x10 mini-lathe, and he provided me with an enormous store of information on machining, metalworking, gunsmithing, and other things that I wanted to know about. He could explain things in a few sentences, or even just a few word, that would take many others pages and pages, and still not be so clear and helpful! I'd always hoped that someday I'd get to meet in in person, but that I'm not going to get to, now, is something I'll always regret. H was happy to share his knowledge, and help people begin to approach his skill level in these hobbies, and I will always remember his kindness and willingness to share! He's really high in my top-10 list of people I want to be like when I grow up! He will be severely missed!? Bill in OKC William R. Meyers, MSgt, USAF(Ret.) Re: DB200 with Rustoleum Hammertone Paint
That looks really nice.? For a somewhat poor color comparison between original Unimat paint and the Rustolem Hammered Rosemary paint you can watch my YouTube video.? The first Unimat in the video is a Rustolem Rosemary repaint.? The others are factory paint jobs.? (also, not all parts on the 1st one were repainted.? The motor has not been painted)? the Link to my Video is

Re: Mert Baker's passing
开云体育Thanks Vicky from letting us know about Mert's death. How old was he? I formerly lived in RI and many years came to visit him at his old house that burned. He was most charming and interesting and was willing to share his vast store of machine information ?with all, ?both in person and online. Personally, I learned ?a lot from him and have saved a number of his posts and images for future reference. I know he will be sorely missed.Best wishes and be well- Bill Macy William Macy 52 Lincolnshire Loop Asheville, NC 28803 Mobile: 401-439-1705 Land line: 828-505-1192

Re: Mert Baker's passing
Dear Vicki, So sorry to learn about your Dad, our deepest condolences. He taught all of us a great deal and not just about Unimats. Here's a story for the memory book: I put a Unimat item up for sale on eBay and in the description I added, "Mert would approve". Later, a member of this group posted that he had purchased the item because he knew it had been offered by a fellow member because of the "Mert" reference. You Dad was our hero! Re: DB200 with Rustoleum Hammertone Paint
开云体育You might consider storing the cans up side down, in the hope propellant does not leak out over time. ?I have other cans in my collection where over a period of years, the propellant slowly escaped. ?At least one person on YouTube has added propellant to old spray cans. ?In the past I have decanted hammered gold and hammered blue into a single bottle to mix up a touch up color. ?Finally I have at least one factory painted part that is a slightly different hue from others.Reg Barron On Jul 5, 2022, at 3:44 PM, John Hutnick <johnhutnick@...> wrote:

Re: Mert Baker's passing
Vicki, your dad Mert Baker will be missed by anyone who knew him on this forum as well as the old Yahoo Groups. He had his own unique way of sharing his broad knowledge on a wide range of subjects.
The Mert I knew was self effacing and modest, somewhat reluctant to take credit for his good advice ever though he well deserved it. I miss him. Dick |

Boy, do I feel like a goof !? I put the pulley side bearing race in backwards !! DB200 Restoreation

I've been restoring my DB 200, new spindle, bearings, grease, washers etc. Found a few cans of Rustoleum Rosemarie, does a great job !
I'm just putting the headstock back together, and am having difficulty putting the pulley back on. When I put any torque on the pulley nut, the spindle gets progressively harder to spin, when I slaken it off, the spindle spins freely. Is there some trick to finding the "sweet spot" where the pulley is secure, and the spindle (chuck) spins freely ? (locktite ?) Thanks in advance Cheers SL |
Re: Drive belt material
I use green belts, and like them because if you have a crash, they will slip.
