A center drill with a long tip, would be a drill with a large shank. The advantage of a center drill is a tip that doesn't deflect from center.

I have no need for a hardness tester as I do not harden anything in house these days. Anything I produce these days is made from pre hardened material which is still machinable with HSS or carbide
