Re: Filling in DB200/SL1000 lathe bed with lead
On the DB/SL I don't see the use of it, since I think that most of the flex is in the way bars. Harvey

Re: Filling in DB200/SL1000 lathe bed with lead
I made a wooden pattern & had a cast iron base made for my DB200. This enabled me to add a few features. First, I moved the column base from the HS end to the middle of the bed, making the milling

Re: any advice for first time milling with dovetail cutter ?
Harvey & Mert, Thanks for the replies. If used in small increment, with cutting fluid (on AL) and careful feeding rate vs speed, this dovetail cutter should last me for many years to come I hope. This

Re: any advice for first time milling with dovetail cutter ?
Hi Norm, First, trench out the majority of the dovetail with a plain endmill. Go to the full width of the top of the dovetailed slot, and leave maybe 0.1mm on the bottom. This way the dovetail cutter

Re: any advice for first time milling with dovetail cutter ?
For cutting an inside dovetail, one with the walls slanting in, about the only way to cut it is to cut a slot for the shaft first, then use the dovetail cutter. For an outside dovetail, with the walls

Re: Introduction
Hmmm, I have a 7x lathe (Chinese made) and a unimat SL-1000. Although the 7x is much larger than the unimat, they each have their places. I've heard people say that neither lathe is worth anything

Re: Introduction
I have found rock maple, a very hard, dense close grained wood, to machine very nicely with the high speeds available on the Unis. Soft woods tend to tear & gum up. at the moment, I'm cutting the

Re: any advice for first time milling with dovetail cutter ?
To cut dovetail slots, first use an ordinary endmill to cut most of the metal away. Then cut the DT one side at a time. On the Uni, this is best done in small increments. Brass is easier to cut, as a

Yes, female hobbiest here. And that puts me in a second minority, I'm guessing. :-) My plan is to use this for miniature projects on softer woods and metals. So it will be detailed but very small

Re: Unimat PC - any experiences or comments?
John, The headstock and tailstock are threaded the same as the Unimat 3 so those accessories are the same. My opinion and I read it somewhere that this is more of a training lathe and should not be

Re: Unimat PC - any experiences or comments?
I don't have one, but from what I understand, you'd do well to check that it has the software, and if so, what environment it runs in, and what kinds of files it will take. Hardware aside, you'd have
