The plant where I work has been using 3D printed parts as replacements for OEM parts that were unobtainium.? The parts were printed in carbon fiber filled nylon and the machine runs 24/7, 5 days a week.? These parts get replaced once a year, even the OEM parts when they were available.? ?If you use the right stuff 3D printed parts are durable if you don't abuse them.? I printed a holder for my grass trimming shear that I bolted onto the handle of my lawn mower.? It lasted for years, until some dummy hit a tree with it.? I'm not going to name fingers or point names, but...?
I use a mix of metal and plastic parts for the stuff I build, metal where it makes sense and printed parts for complex shapes.? I used brass bushings in the rubber band guns that I armed my great-niece and great-nephews with for a couple of reasons.? First, because filament 3D printers have a tough time with tolerances in holes, and second because I wanted the guns to last.? I haven't heard any complaints, and those guns are several years old now.? I armed them so they would be prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse - ever seen a zombie touch a rubber band?? Me neither.

Brad, I see you have gotten a lot of advise. For the basics, look at Blondihacks/Quinn on YouTube. She has a series of basic lathe operations. Her lessons can? be used on any size lathe. If you are interested, she is building a switch engine after many other steam related builds.

Anything is possible, but what material would be used? I am suspect of the longevity of 3D printed products. When I build tooling I prefer to use steel. Perhaps that comes from my tool and die background.

You can clamp
a dead center in the chuck and use the jaws to drive the dog.
Even better, dress the dead center true after clamping it.

That was then and this is now.? The choice is to buy a cheap, Indian 2 3/4" rotary, or a larger, more expensive USA Sherline.? The Sherline 20% sale is through the end of May.? So make your choice.

I should add that this was back in the day when Harbor Freight was a catalog only, no stores, 40+ years ago. Homier back then was of the same quality and they had more machine tools under the brand Speedway. Sadly they started sell junk later on. ?Jeff

I wouldn't
rely on the foam. The motor and body are quite heavy and the
motor mount is quite thin.
It isn't hard
to free the motor. Just take the motor pulley off, one screw,
and then you can reach two screws to free the motor.
I also doubt
FedEx would pay you enough to buy a new motor mount.
While not
FedEx I have been burnt to the tune of $500 in the last few
years, so use caution.

I was relying on FedEx to do their magic foam-in-place packaging which is great. When I purchased a telescope, the seller had FedEx package it and I could not believe how well they did it.?
The foam in place is a little pouch. you squeeze it and it has a chemical reaction. You place it on your object and as the reaction continues, it foams and the foam takes the shape of whatever you are wrapping. This way it ends up being immobilized in the box.

My suggestion is to machine your own from scratch. That is what I intend to do. I will design it in CAD then build.

Heres a thought. many years ago i made 2 rotary tables of sorts. One manually rotated by hand for my sherline it had a thread to hold a drill chuck. It had a 2"(50mm) table. Rotated by a tommy bar in the side holes. Two an old 1980's Ford windscreen wiper motor machined and modified to make a 2.75 "(70mm) rotary table. The wiper motor is the dark grey part. ?The ratio of the worm drive was dreadful but it functioned for me then.?
