Re: 4 jaw chuck M12 x 1 thread
开云体育Hi
Gang: Runout
on a independent 4 jaw is a non problem. You adjust the jaws
to true the part anyway. You can check the runout of the face of the chuck. If it is bad then you can stone the back of the chuck to make it run truer. I did this for my ER32 chuck. Carl. On 3/31/2023 12:07 PM, Richard Burrows

Re: 4 jaw chuck M12 x 1 thread
Is what I did. LOOKS really good. Haven't finished the refurb, so can't tell how good it really is. There is enough metal there you could skim off much of the back of the chuck, and make a? back plate for it, too.? Bill in OKC William R. Meyers, MSgt, USAF(Ret.) Re: 4 jaw chuck M12 x 1 thread
True, that. Only thing that would matter is if it's at an angle to the axis of the spindle. Might be able to fix that by skimming the back of the chuck, or the flange on the spindle. Or even cleaning those surfaces.? Bill in OKC William R. Meyers, MSgt, USAF(Ret.) Aphorisms to live by: Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.? SEMPER GUMBY! Quality chucks are available from sherline.com and can be ordered threaded to fit M12 x 1 DB/SL lathes.
The price for a 2.5" independent four jaw chuck, threaded M12 x 1, from Sherline is $131.04. The only concern I would have is, since the chuck is pre-threaded without a faceplate, there would be no way to correct any runout if the Uninat DB/SL spindle is not perfectly threaded. Richard. |

Re: Rustoleum Green Hammered
Dear rcjge, I am not brave enough to paint my unimat pink, although I love Pink....
I only have male decendents and would love for my tools to stay in the family, (if hmmm.... if I should die before I wake), so I will keep them the correct colors.? Now, if I ever make a 1/12th scale miniature of a unimat, then? it would be incredibly fun to paint my own lathe pink...? These are long into the future projects though, If I am healthy and? don't get an expiration date, I'm working for 10-11 years.... at some point in time in those 10-11 years,??the plan will be to take the summers off and? then I can dig into some real projects without being interrupted to work. It is still soooo busy at work, no time to play during the day and make phone calls.? Mica is pretty easily found though. 1/4 oz of clear Mica flakes is $7 on Amazon, I might test this too.? I can't paint right now, it is way too cold here to even contemplate painting anything. And the class / workshop season starts at the end of April, where I'm scheduled for classes in April, May and June this year, so I won't be painting until this summer. Tamra |
Re: Rustoleum Green Hammered
Reminds me of a Mercury Cyclone a friend of mine had.? One of the small panels on the front of the car somehow got a large scrape on it and needed to be repainted.? Sounds easy, but the paint was an aftermarket metal flake.? Getting the color right was easy for the shop, but getting the metal flake to look right took at least three reapplications.? Variables:? flake color, flake size, flake density, angle of the flakes within the paint.? They all make a difference.??

Ok so let me get this straight. Pour out paint.? Take hammer and hammer away and/ or mix with metal particles. (We should all have plenty of that)? Scoop back into botttle and wallah!! You have hammered paint ready to use.
All kidding aside. That's sure seems like a tedious process, way tooo easily messed up without some exact measurements and ratios for the shade of paint we all seem to be looking for. Best left to professionals IMO.?
Interesting read though. My best-of-luck wishes to anyone that gives it a try. Please do report back with how it turned out. Don't forget to post pictures. I do apologize for the run on sentences and any piss poor grammer I may have used.. Been
