Re: Quick Change Tool Post
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOr make your own - quick look on eBay for 25mm square steel bar
stock showed a range of prices and postage, from about 40p per
toolpost through to maybe a couple of quid each.? Then you can
slit them to fit whatever size tool you want - no more shims! On 04/05/2020 09:36, Unimat Matt wrote:

Re: Quick Change Tool Post
The ones I got from chronos are steel, but hardly what you would call precision, the dovetails have Gibs, but the adjustment on those isn't what you would expect as the threaded part is in the gib, but doesn't protrude into the dovetail so doesn't do a lot.

Re: Quick Change Tool Post

Re: Quick Change Tool Post
Actually I have been using for a week or so now and if you are changing out tools it does make getting them the right height easier, plus allows you to use 3/8" bits, which are that bit stiffer. It's also easier to get than trying to find a source for standard unimat tool holders.

Re: Quick Change Tool Post
I have to agree.
I have used lathes in my work for many years. The quick change tool posts on them were very precision parts, you could change the tool and it would be within about 0.001" every time. If you're doing a lot of the same parts it turned the lathe into a semi CNC. All the quick change toolposts I have seen on ebay etc are cheap looking, some made of aluminum, I ask you! |
Re: Quick Change Tool Post
I have one of those on my U3. Its a bit rough and ready but it works well enough. See here:? Paul B. in overcast Derbyshire U.K.

Alfred Fickensher
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI bought one from Harry Koesnadi in February or January. I also bought one of his rotating vise mounts at the same time. He's located in Central California and he's been silent now for a month and a half. I hope he's not a victim. alf, On May 3, 2020, at 21:50, John Hutnick <johnhutnick@...> wrote:

Re: Quick Change Tool Post
A2Z CNC used to have a very nice USA made toolpost that was adaptable to a variety of lathes by changing the mount.? I have one on my US and have used it on a Unimat SL, the other one is on my Compact 5.? A2Z is out of business hopefully somebody has the code for making these toolposts.? Little Machine Shop makes toolholders to fit .? You may be lucky on EBAY

Re: Quick Change Tool Post
There are a few for sale from the UK (where I'm based) like this one?
I will send them a message to see if they can tell me the lowest possible tool height in the holder. Do you think (if it goes low enough) something like that would be worth spending money on and then adapting to fit the sl? Or if I would be better off picking up the first one I linked, bearing in mind that spare holders are ?9.99 on top so to fit the 4 tools I have the price between the two is negligible. Thanks Dan |

This looks like the same one on AliExpress:? What country are you in? I'd ask what tool bit height is possible. He may be able to tell you.? Re: Quick Change Tool Post
Do you think it's Chinese? Seems cheap for a EU make. This seems similar. I bought a Chinese one - looks OK too. Neil ----- On Sun, May 3, 2020 at 5:07 PM Daniel via <danboywm=[email protected]> wrote: Hi there |
Quick Change Tool Post
Hi there
I'm looking into a quick change tool post so my sl to make life a little easier when machining. I don't particularly want to spend 100s of pounds on one so where do I stand with something like that. Obviously I don't want to spend money on something that isn't worth it. I also don't have the know-how (or skill)? to make my own from scratch. I've done a little digging and found this on eBay () anybody has any experience with this tool post? Any help is appreciated.? Thanks Dan |
